A1RE puts the drawings and the build under one roof: Mónica Gonzalez leads the architectural side, Juan Wulff runs construction, and the two founded the Newton Upper Falls firm together. The work follows from that — renovations, additions and new single-family houses across Newton, Wellesley, Brookline, Lexington, Natick and the towns around them. The homeowners who have written about A1RE describe long projects rather than quick fixes. In a March 2025 review, a couple thanked Juan, Monica and the team for designing and then executing a complicated job that meant working through very strict town construction regulations on a house nearly 80 years old. Another March 2025 review came from owners living out of state, who credited the firm's professionalism, quality and timely responses through both the construction and the maintenance of their house. A February 2025 reviewer built out an attic from scratch with them and called it a good investment. The awards sit on the design side. A1RE lists a 2025 PRISM Gold for Best Home Renovation from the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston, a 2023 PRISM Gold for Best Living Area in a private residence, a 2024 PRISM Silver for Community Spirit shared with ALSAR ATELIER, and a 2025 ArchDaily Building of the Year nomination with that same studio. An architecture site wrote up one of its buildings in June 2024 — a community room built as a framework meant to disappear gradually as trees grow through it. Its site lists an unrestricted Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License for Juan Wulff, its CEO and chief builder. This is the call for a project where design and construction need to stay in one conversation: an addition on an older suburban house, an attic conversion, a gut renovation with a town permitting office to satisfy. Ask for a fixed scope with a payment schedule tied to milestones, and ask who runs the site day to day once the design is signed off.
