- Skilled carpentry — praised for built-ins, shelving and trim work
DKIM Contracting - Designed Living Space is Douglas Kim's one-name Newton contracting business, and the reviews read like a long list of the same clients coming back again and again. One reviewer says they've hired Doug for roughly ten major and minor projects over the years; several others describe multiple jobs — a two-level front porch resupported after another contractor's fix started sinking again, a basement finished with new windows, a full bathroom built onto one end of a home, custom built-in shelving in a grand Victorian living room, and 17 replacement windows finished with matching trim carpentry. The recurring theme across 17 reviews from 2023 through mid-2026 is craftsmanship paired with a genuinely clean, considerate work style — reviewers specifically call out that DKIM keeps job sites free of dust and debris while working in occupied homes, and that Doug listens to what a client actually wants before recommending a design. Google shows a 5-star average across 19 ratings, and there isn't a negative review anywhere in the written history here. One small thing worth flagging for transparency: one review appears to have left in a chatbot's introductory line before the actual text ("Here's a polished and heartfelt review you could use for Doug Kim") — the substance underneath still describes a specific project and reads consistently with the rest of the praise here. For custom carpentry, built-ins, or a bathroom or kitchen renovation in the Newton area, DKIM Contracting has a long list of repeat clients and specific, detailed praise behind it — worth a call.
