Acton Refrigeration has been running out of Littleton since 1972, when Bruce Morrison, a U.S. Navy Seabee veteran just back from his second tour in Vietnam, started the company; more than five decades later it's still family-owned and run by Morrison, working HVAC, commercial refrigeration and custom sheet metal across Middlesex County towns from Acton to Concord to Chelmsford. The thing that shows up again and again in its Google reviews is speed under pressure. In an August 2025 review, a homeowner described coming home to a flooded kitchen and a dead thermostat on a Friday afternoon and having a technician on-site within the hour, the system running again in 45 minutes. A June 2023 reviewer had Acton install a ductless mini-split and swap out a central AC system that had run flawlessly since the company did the original ducting back in 1995 — a decades-spanning relationship that turns up more than once in its record; a March 2023 customer wrote about being with the company since 2015 for heat exchangers and unusual issues on a deck-house install. A November 2023 review described a large heat-pump-and-air-handler job for a commercial service wing, completed with a last-minute scope change. The company's Massachusetts HVAC/sheet metal registration is active with the state registry, and its BBB profile carries an A+ grade with accreditation. BuildZoom's separate directory listing also shows an active Sheet Metal Business license, though it lists a Refrigeration Contractor license and an Electrician license as inactive — worth asking about directly if the job is refrigeration-contractor work specifically rather than general HVAC, since that's a different registration than the one verified active. Its own site lists memberships in RSES, ACCA, ASHRAE and NATE certification, plus factory-authorized status with Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Bryant and other major manufacturers. Not every account is glowing: in an August 2024 review, a customer calling about a walk-in freezer repair described a rude, dismissive phone exchange with office staff after apparently being confused with an earlier caller — a sour note in an otherwise consistent record of praise for the technicians themselves. For anyone with a broken system on a weekend, Acton looks built for exactly that call — 24/7 emergency service, a long bench of manufacturer certifications, and reviewers who keep describing a technician showing up fast and fixing the problem. Confirm which specific license applies if the job is refrigeration-contractor work rather than general HVAC, and know that the front office hasn't always matched the field crew's reputation for going smoothly.
I called the company who installed my two-year old furnace to come repair it and they quoted me an outrageous price. They also would have required me to pay outright for a part under warranty and wait three months for reimbursement. I am so glad I found Acton Refrigeration. They were thorough and efficient and very reasonably priced. I will be calling them first next time.
Came home yesterday Friday August 8 at 3:00 pm to a flooded kitchen and basement ... thermostat not working ... a disaster! Called Acton Refrigeration ... had a technician there within an hour and up and running within 45 minutes .. fantastic job ... thank you so much!
Love Acton Refrigeration! Honest, super-skillful, reliable and respectful. Many years of service; hope for more to come. Thank you, everyone at Acton Refrigeration!
I have used Acton Refrigeration for over 10 years. They came this morning to replace a system filter and look at our lack of heat on our 2nd floor. The technician quickly determined the thermostat was defective. Once again, thank you Acton Refrigeration!
I called them to have them fix my walk-in freezer, but I didn't know someone else in the company called before. Karen got so mad and was super rude to me. At the end of the day, we were trying to give you our business, why dump your frustration on possible customers like that? If your customer service is like this, I can just wonder how the rest of the company is. Don't worry I'm never going to call you again.
