Alton Barnes is the one-name-everyone-uses kind of contractor: almost every one of its 38 reviews is about Mack — Marcio Mombrini — personally. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active in the company's name, and the platforms line up: 4.9 stars from 25 Google ratings and 4.8 from 95 on Angi and HomeAdvisor. What the reviews actually describe is unusually broad. Storm work comes up twice in 2026: an April reviewer with two decks left unstable after a tree glanced off the house said Mack got it done in a handful of days and sent photos of progress throughout, and in July 2025 another had a storm-damaged section of deck replaced on an accurate estimate over two days. Old houses are a recurring theme — in February 2025 a homeowner who had given up on re-plastering the ceiling of a 100-year-old house said Mack's team hung new drywall and re-plastered it two days after quoting, and in March 2023 a customer had a through-wall dog door and a custom screen door built for an 1870 farmhouse, with Mack measuring on several visits to get the specs right. The small-job end is just as active. A June 2026 reviewer had a leaking kitchen faucet, a broken cabinet door, a new mailbox and an outdoor light fixture all handled in one go; an August 2025 customer had two exterior doors fitted, another had a TOTO bidet installed, and a third had a storm door refitted at short notice where the frame was pulling away. In June 2024 a homeowner who found peeling plaster under a removed drop ceiling said another contractor offered a quick fix and Mack's team did it properly instead. Larger work exists too — a deck with a recessed hot tub in West Wareham in 2023, and a 30-day whole-home renovation in 2021. There is one sharply negative account. A December 2021 Google reviewer called it a "crooked man company," said the work did not look good and that the owner overcharged. Nothing since echoes it, and it stands alone against 37 positive reviews. Two milder notes: an August 2022 four-star said quality was "quite good" on a job melding old work with new, and a September 2022 three-star's written comment is actually complimentary. Best fit for storm and rot repairs, plaster and drywall in older houses, doors, decks and painting, and for the list of small jobs no one else will take in one visit. Get the estimate in writing — reviewers praise its accuracy — and ask how much of the job Mack does himself versus subcontracts.
