Alves Fuels is a Ludlow, MA outfit that has spent decades doing two related things: delivering heating oil and keeping the furnaces, boilers and AC units on the other end of that oil line running. The company says it has operated since 1982 — a start date the Better Business Bureau's own profile corroborates — and describes itself as family-owned. The reviews keep returning to the owners showing up personally: one 2022 review says Joe and Liz "go above and beyond to satisfy a customer regardless of the situation", and another from that year describes the owner coming out himself during a summer heat wave to replace a failed AC unit. A January 2026 review credits Alves with a second opinion that saved a customer from an unneeded furnace replacement another company had pushed — Alves found the unit was still under warranty and working fine. Turnaround shows up often too: a late-2025 review describes a new water tank installed within 16 hours of a late-night failure, and an older review describes a water heater installed in three hours. There's friction worth knowing about. A 2025 review says a $120 repair for a leaking heating pump — a silicone patch — failed again three months later, and Alves then wanted another $120 to finish the job with what the customer describes as a $6 part. Another 2025 review says a 12-year autopay customer was cut off as a client over a single expired-card billing lapse. Separately, a 2014 federal court record — an insurance-coverage case, not a claim naming Alves as a defendant — describes an oil tank exploding at a customer's home in 2011 shortly after an Alves delivery; the record doesn't state a cause or outcome. The company's own website also gives two different founding dates for itself: 1982 on most pages, 1999 on one. For routine oil delivery and heating/cooling work, Alves has a long, mostly warm record — worth confirming billing terms on any repair up front, given the disputes above.
