Alvin's Plumbing and Heating says on its website that it has 5 years in business and lists locations from Hartford and West Hartford to Middletown, Manchester and Glastonbury. On Google it holds 4.7 stars from 172 ratings. In October 2026 a customer wrote that technician Angel Cruz replaced their garbage disposal in no time and explained the use of the key. In September 2026 another customer said Brian Rivera and Rodney Gray installed a sump pump, and a reviewer that month wrote that Alvin's came the next morning to fix a leaky faucet and was done in about an hour even though they had to go out for a part. In July 2026 a customer wrote that they showed up within 30 minutes of the phone call to replace a hot water heater and the job was done within an hour. A June 2026 customer said Alvin's replaced a water heater, fixed a shower leak and replaced bad parts in a toilet all in one day, for less than another plumbing company had quoted, and thanked Rick and Brian. In July 2026 a customer gave one star over billing. That reviewer wrote that a representative quoted $60 to send a technician, that the technicians then charged a $195 baseline fee for an under-sink leak fixed by cutting an inch of plastic pipe, and that the office quoted $225 for a bathroom faucet with the $195 rolled in, but the card was to be charged $420. The reviewer said the owner refused to honor the agreed price and that they were filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. In October 2026 a customer gave three stars, writing that a shower cartridge job billed at $550 was left leaking, no revisit was scheduled after multiple texts, and they replaced the cartridge themselves; that customer said a smart thermostat install was fixed. In April 2026 a customer wrote that no one came or called on the day of a confirmed appointment and the company offered to reschedule three days later. In August 2026 a one-star reviewer complained that a van driver had no patience driving behind them in a school zone. In an October 2024 review, a reviewer whose landlord hired Alvin's to maintain a boiler wrote that the company replaced working radiators with baseboards that would not work with the boiler, leaving the home without heat for a week, and never checked the gas water heater after shutting it off. A February 2023 reviewer said they were charged $575 for a piece of copper on a job that took 45 minutes. In a December 2022 review, a customer described buying a house with corroded copper pipes full of pinhole leaks and having the house replumbed by Alvin's; the people who did the work put in a long day so the customer did not go more than one day without water.
Bit of a mixed bag for me. I had a couple of jobs (shower cartridges & smart thermostat install). The thermostat was much harder than it should have been (my fault!) and they got that fixed. The showers though? Should've been a simple job but was left leaking. After multiple texts there was no revisit scheduled and talk of replacing the valve (there was no leak prior to the swap). I replaced the cartridge myself and 20 minutes later everything is as it should be. EDIT: As per the reply below - 4 months later they look to correct something I was billed $550 for & yet had to do correctly myself. Odd.
Excellent and efficient technicians. I'm very pleased!
Was able to come on same day notice
Sooooo fast and efficient
Angel Cruz was our technician today and was outstanding. He was professional and knowledgeable. Angel replaced the garbage disposal in no time and explained the use of the key. I am very satisfied with Alvin's Plumbing and Heating.
