A Google reviewer's freshest word on American Exterior & Window, this spring, wasn't about a roof or a window — it was a complaint about flyers left in a porch railing for the seventh time in three years, signed off with "clowns." That's the most current read on this Boston contractor, which works out of 300 Commercial St, says it's handled the city's commercial and residential roofing, siding, and window and door jobs since 2002, and carries an active Massachusetts home improvement contractor license, HIC 135991. Beyond that one recent complaint, the track record is thin rather than damning. Google puts it at 4 stars from 8 ratings; Angi shows a lower 2.8 from just 2, alongside a GAF Master Elite Roofer credential and a self-reported BBB A+ on that same profile. One of those two Angi reviews raises a real workmanship concern — a roof job where the gutters were never finished as promised and a signed contract never arrived — which matters more than a handful of upbeat ratings on a small sample. Worth asking about directly before signing anything: get the contract and scope in writing given that Angi account, and ask to be left off any door-flyer route if repeat solicitation is a dealbreaker. For a licensed Boston-area roofer with a long-stated history but only a handful of mixed reviews behind it, a call is reasonable — just go in with a written contract and don't assume gutter cleanup or timeline is included unless it's spelled out.

Please stop leaving these trash flyers in between the railing on my front steps. I don't want your business and havent the other 6 times you've left this junk on my front stairs over the past 3 yrs. Oh edit, I walked out of my house to go to work 2 minutes after posting and to the surprise of no one I found another flyer that had blown into my yard. Clowns.

I hired American Exteriors for a deck replacement. The sales representative Paul suggested we use composite materials for the new deck with vinyl railings. We are very happy with the workmanship and the suggested materials!

This is a great company! They ended up be a hidden gem the pricing was so much better than the other 3 contractors I called and they did my roof over and even replaced the damaged wood below the shingles before they installed an amazing new roof for me. I also just booked them to replace my rubber roof on the back of my house.
