Andrew Dixon Plumbing & Heating is a Swampscott shop handling residential and commercial plumbing, heating and gas piping work, and its Massachusetts plumber license is active. What people keep coming back to is that Andrew doesn't upsell — a recent review calls him "the only plumber I trust," describing being talked out of replacing an expensive system three separate times because it didn't actually need it yet. Other jobs in the written record follow the same pattern: in a 2021 review, a homeowner had a leak in a condo found and fixed the same day, and in another from that year, a leaking, noisy water heater was swapped out in under four hours at what the customer called a reasonable price. The one sour note is a detailed 2024 review describing billing practices the customer felt weren't disclosed upfront — travel time from the previous job charged at the full $185/hour rate, and partial hours rounded up. The same customer said the plumbing work itself was good and Andrew was responsive, but wouldn't hire again over the invoicing. Worth asking how travel time and partial hours get billed before the job starts. Google shows 4.5 stars from 8 ratings. For straightforward plumbing and heating repairs, the track record is solid — just pin down the billing terms first.
These are the only plumbers I truly trust. Andrew is not only a skilled and efficient plumber, he is completely uninterested in upselling people with things they don’t need. His employees are actually kind and friendly, even when you interrupt their lunch and pester them with technical questions, as I did the other day outside of a restaurant. I’ve used them twice, and have asked him if I should have him replace large, expensive systems three more times for him to advise me to save my money and call when it breaks. This was an easy, large ticket sale in an expensive neighborhood to an uninformed client, and he’s such a solid guy he advised against it. He even tightened something up for free just on principle.
This is a great family owned company. Didn't encounter a problem with the hourly charge the hours started when the work started. They did a great job within 24 hours of call and it was better price than the local competitors. Far better price. Thanks for the service!
Beware, used multiple times before i found charges on the invoices which were not mentioned at the time the job was discussed. The worst was that he charged me $185 / hr from the time his men left the office, or previous job, to drive to my house. Then rounded up to the next whole hour at the end of the job, i. e. 3 hr 40 minutes was billed as 4. I discussed this with Andrew to no avail. Other than that the work was good and he was very responsive. I won't use again because I feel overcharged and cheated.
Excellent service
I woke up to no hot water. Joe came to assess and I decided to have my water heater replaced. It was beginning to leak and was making weird sounds when he finally got it going. I had a mess approx 10yrs ago and didn't want that again. Work was complete in less than 4 hrs at a reasonable price.
