Roland Cournoyer's customers describe the same quality in different words: he starts your job and stays on it. A November 2019 homeowner who hired him to rebuild walls, floors and a ceiling damaged by a water leak wrote that he laid out exactly what the work involved, gave an estimate and held to it, then dedicated himself to that job rather than splitting time across sites. A client finishing a full kitchen renovation in October 2017 said he showed up with lists — what they needed to decide and when. A second 2017 reviewer called him a master craftsman and pointed to custom built-ins alongside the kitchens and baths. Ashwood describes itself as a small full-service residential design, build and remodeling business in Danvers. Its ratings are perfect but slight: 5★ from four Google ratings, and 5.0 from two reviews on Houzz. In November 2020 a homeowner who works on larger construction projects professionally met three contractors, picked Ashwood for a new shower, and left five stars. The thing to settle before anything else is the registration. The Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration held by Ashwood Construction & Remodeling, number 204448, is expired in the state registry. That registration is what Massachusetts requires for residential remodeling work and what gives a homeowner access to the state Guaranty Fund if a job goes wrong, so its status matters more than any single review here. Its Houzz profile separately lists a home improvement contractor registration numbered 177831 and an unrestricted construction supervisor license CS-0849928 — those are Houzz's listing, not verified against the registry. The written history is also entirely older: four reviews running from September 2017 to November 2020. If the finish work in those accounts is what you're after — a built-in, a shower, a kitchen handled by the same pair of hands from start to finish — the older reviews are consistent and specific about how he runs a job. Before signing anything, ask Roland for his current HIC registration number and check it yourself on the state's Contractor Hub, and ask for two projects from the past year you can call.
We had a GREAT experience with Roland. We had never used him or even heard of Ashwood Construction before our new shower project and just picked him after receiving quotes and meeting three contractors. I am in the business for larger construction projects so I know I am very picky and sometimes tough to please. I have nothing but good things to say about Roland and Andy, his tile guy. They were both very professional. Roland communicated almost daily during the construction on exactly what was going to go on, when they would be at the house, etc. Andy takes so much pride in his work and is a true craftsman. Everyone who was at the house cleaned up every day and was respectful of the house.<br>His final price was his original quote. If anyone that reads this would like to hear more about our experience, please feel free to contact me.
I hired Roland to repair walls, floors and ceiling damaged by a water leak. He clearly communicated what the job would entail, gave us the estimate and stuck to it. I appreciated the fact then when he began working he dedicated himself to our job so there was never any question of where he was or when the job would get done. He kept us apprised all along of where he was and what was coming next. He was friendly and personable and we enjoyed having him work in our home. We are very pleased with the results. He even rendered first aid when I suffered a severe cut while working on another project.
We hired Ashwood Construction for a complete kitchen reno in the summer of 2017. From our initial inquiry, we were impressed by Roland Cournoyer's responsiveness and attention to detail. As soon as we hired him, he began giving us lists of what we needed to do, what decisions we needed to make, and he continued to follow up with us on this as the project moved along. He is an excellent communicator, always prompt and clear. A pleasure to work with, friendly and always approachable. His work is top-notch because he is so detail-oriented. I mean, *really* detail-oriented. We trusted him implicitly and respected his opinions about every aspect of the job. Perhaps best of all, he didn't work on multiple jobs at once so he was able to devote 100% attention to us from start to finish. We'd hire him again in a heartbeat. Great experience.
Roland is a Master Craftsman with attention to detail at every aspect. He does complete kitchen and bathroom remodels as well as custom buit-ins with superior expertise. He's got a nice personality and very pleasant to work with. He's reliable, does what he says he's going to do. I highly recommend Roland.
