Scott is the business. Across seventeen accounts written between 2014 and 2023, customers of this West Roxbury remodeler almost always name the owner rather than a crew: he answers texts within the hour, he shows up on a weekend to fix a burst pipe, he talks a first-time client through a whole pre-construction plan and leaves the decisions to them. B&B describes itself as a family-owned design/build operation and says on BuildZoom it has been at this for over 30 years; BBB puts the start date at 1 January 1991 and lists Scott Bourgeois as owner of what it records as a sole proprietorship trading also as B&B Unique Roofing. The work is whole-room and whole-house rather than one trade. Building permits filed under the company's name include a $60,260 Newton kitchen and flooring job in 2021 and a $29,960 kitchen and dining remodel in West Newton in 2017; reviewers describe two gutted bathrooms, a basement with a badly uneven floor brought back into shape, a kitchen plus three bathrooms plus first-floor windows, and an addition. A January 2021 customer said the job stayed on time and on budget with the workarounds explained as they came up. Now the part that needs care, because it concerns the paperwork rather than the workmanship. Directories publish three different licence numbers for this company and they don't line up. Houzz advertises number 076999 — which BuildZoom lists as an INACTIVE Construction Supervisor licence that it says was at one point cancelled. BuildZoom separately lists an active Home Improvement Contractor registration, #182122, and an active Construction Supervisor licence CS-077127, neither re-verified since July 2025. And when that HIC number is looked up on the Massachusetts registry, the holder of record comes back as a different person's name entirely, not this business. A 2015 reviewer wrote that the company would not give out its licence number when asked and questioned why they wanted it; the company replied in 2023 that its information is public and it would have provided it. The written record is also thin and ageing: seventeen reviews spread over nine years, the newest from August 2023, and one of the two Houzz reviews and most of the BuildZoom ones date from 2016. The BBB review on file describes a job that had not started yet. Before signing anything here, ask for the registration certificate and the Construction Supervisor licence in the name the work will be contracted under, and check both yourself at the Office of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Public Safety. The customer accounts are consistently warm; the licence trail is the thing to resolve first.
