An ice dam crushed a homeowner's A/C compressor this June — housing mangled, top flattened, fan seized. The Berry technician who came out hammered the metal back into shape in the driveway, refit the fan, and got the unit running rather than selling a replacement. That is the through-line in the recent write-ups: fix it if it can be fixed. The company dates itself to 2001, when three HVAC professionals — Allan, Bill and Scott — struck out with two trucks from a garage, moving to the Georgetown property in 2012. Its Massachusetts HVAC license is active on the state registry. The BBB gives it an A+ without accreditation, lists ten employees, and the company holds dealer standing with Bosch, American Standard, Viessmann, Lochinvar and Rinnai, with NATE certification for its service technicians. Google sits at 4.6 across 41 ratings. The design-first approach shows in the recent installs: on a mini-split job this summer the customer shopped several companies first, and what won them over was a detailed explanation of why the other proposed layouts would not hold up long term. Berry was not the cheapest quote — the customer said so plainly, and called the price reasonable anyway. Another described a crew that arrived, in their words, with all hands on deck and no delay. Two scope limits are worth knowing before you call, both stated by the company itself. It does not service oil-fired heating or hot water, steam heat, or conventional tank water heaters. And the 24-hour emergency line is for service-contract customers — that plan is what buys the after-hours callback. The one-star reviews on file all date from 2023 and cluster on two themes: getting a first call returned when you are not already a customer, and follow-through after a maintenance visit. Nothing negative has landed in the last three years of collected comments, but both themes are worth raising directly when you book. The right call for a North Shore or Merrimack Valley homeowner planning a gas, propane, heat pump or mini-split system and willing to pay for a designed install over the low bid. Confirm the equipment brand and what the service contract covers before signing.

Berry installed a mini split at my daughter's condo --- did an AMAZING job! Allan made the process SO easy. After speaking with a couple other companies, and asking ALOT of questions, I realized that Allan was leading me in the right direction for long time success. Was Berry the cheapest? No, but VERY reasonably priced...however he provided a full and detailed explanation why other installation choices were not ideal. I'm glad I did my due diligence, and can rest comfortably (and cool-ly) knowing I have a trusted company to take care of my HVAC needs. Additional kudos to Billy who helped my daughter get her unit set up on Wifi as well as teaching her all the setting options! Can't forget Diana and Ali in the office for their attention to detail and patience and the install guys who arrived ON TIME and worked diligently!! Couldn't be happier :)

The technician, Matt, was amazing. He went above and beyond! My A/C compressor got crushed by an ice dam, so the body was mangled, the top was flattened, and the fan couldn't turn. Most guys would have advised buying a new compressor and walked away. Matt figured out to get the top off and removed the fan and fan casing. He turned into a sheet metal expert in my driveway and hammered out the top and fan casing. Then he straightened out the body enough to get the top back on, reinstalled the fan / casing, and it works great again! With some creativity and extra effort Matt saved me a ton of money!

Barry mechanical uses high-quality products and the service has been great. They have been available quickly for emergencies. I highly recommend their service plan, especially if you have a big fluffy dog and forced hot air.
