Big Blue Plumbing & Heating is a Medford shop with an unusually long paper trail — reviewers describing 10, 12, even 15 years of calling the same company, run by an owner, Kevin Ghozzi, whom more than one customer independently calls 'a gem.' The state's plumbing registry lists its license as active, and its written record runs back to 2021 on Google with several older accounts reaching into the 2010s. The specifics keep repeating: a 100-year-old cast iron stack pipe leak solved after another plumber never showed back up; a Rinnai system revived on the coldest day of the year, with a technician spending half an hour on the phone troubleshooting even though the caller lived outside the service area; a no-heat, no-hot-water call fixed within an hour of an 8:30 a.m. arrival. Reviewers consistently name the same handful of technicians — Randy, Josh, Tenzin, Adin — for explaining the diagnosis before doing the work and cleaning up after. Pricing tells two different stories depending on the job. Plumbing customers on Google repeatedly call the rates reasonable and clearly explained; Reddit threads benchmarking heat-pump and HVAC installers around Boston in 2024 and 2025 put Big Blue's HVAC quotes near the top of the range, with more than one commenter praising Kevin personally while still calling the number a hard pill to swallow. A couple of Google reviews also describe scheduling and office-communication breakdowns — a quoted price that changed between call and appointment, and a maintenance visit that only swapped a filter without addressing the issues raised. For plumbing — a leak, a water heater, an old house's original pipes — this is a well-documented, verified-licensed choice with an unusually deep track record. For a bigger HVAC installation, get more than one quote before committing.
“Before moving a couple of years ago, I was on the board of a large condo association. Our building manager would only call Big Blue for complicated plumbing stuff, they never failed to deliver. They were too pricey for really routine stuff, though.”
“Agreed, Kevin's a gem. On our [2024 market benchmark](https://www.reddit.com/r/boston/comments/1agauzo/i_benchmarked_23_more_heat_pump_installers_but/) I said "Kevin may be the nicest owner I've ever met". Honestly, if you're going to pay *that* much, you should just work with Big Blue rather than one of the Sila companies”
“This is great! I had Big Blue do some plumbing for me last year and they were great to work with. High quality work. I got a quote this year from them for HVAC upgrades and my quote was similar to yours from them. I did think it seemed high and your research confirms that. But if their HVAC work is a similar quality to the plumbing it may be worth it. I agree that Kevin is a delight. Remembered that I have a dog and wanted me to let him out to say hi”
“Great owner. Kevin is super friendly, but retiring soon :(”
“Big Blue in Medford is great. Won’t be the cheapest, but they’ll do a good job”
I used Big Blue Plumbing for AC maintenance based on a neighbor’s recommendation, but I was highly disappointed. The technician did a completely perfunctory job, only changing and cleaning the filter. Even though I explicitly mentioned specific issues I’ve been experiencing, he did absolutely nothing to address them. Charging $325 for basic maintenance I easily could have done myself is unacceptable. I would not recommend their services.
Had a water heater go on the fritz and Big Blue were quick to help. Stacey, who ran point on the phone, was so communicative and helpful in coordinating the replacement of the water heater. Price and promptness were all very welcome. Thank you!
I’ll try to make this one short because if I wrote every reason that I think Big Blue is the best, this review would be way too long to read. Tale of woe: I had a major leak coming down the 100-year-old cast iron stack pipe in my house. A few days before, I’d called a plumber who came over and told me he’d be back after the weekend to figure out the problem. He never showed up, so I Googled plumbers and came upon Big Blue. After reading all of their 5 Star reviews, I called Big Blue and the receptionist (Stacey) sent Randy that afternoon. He did some detective work and correctly diagnosed a cracked main waste stack. Randy and Julio opened the wall to examine the extent of the crack, and it was wide and long — not good. Randy and Julio did as much as they could do that day, and as they were packing up, I mentioned to them that I had a leaking valve in the basement — something I caused that morning. Yeah, when it rains, it pours. Julio offered to look at it, and suggested ways I could fix the leak, if I wanted to try. Ten minutes after they’d left, Julio rang my doorbell. “My conscience won’t let me leave you like that,” he said, and he offered to replace the valve. Randy made it over to the supply house in Medford before it closed, and they replaced the valve. I’m not making this up. A few days later, Randy and Mohammed returned to repair the stack. It took most of the day to do it as the section of damaged pipe was long and the job was complicated. They did a fantastic job. Everybody at Big Blue is super-nice, from the secretarial staff (Stacey and Linda) to every plumber I met. They are quiet, clean, prompt, very knowledgeable, and professional. If I ever have another plumbing problem, I know who I’m calling. There is a reason for all of those 5 Star reviews. Thanks, Big Blue.
I've used Big Blue a few times over the past 15 years. Just had them come around to fix a pipe in the basement. Always done right, clean, and courteous. Prices are reasonable and clearly explained. I wouldn't use anyone else!
Kevin is very experienced and knowledgeable, as is Josh. We really appreciated them answering our many questions! Their team does good work and their rates are reasonable. We'd recommend Big Blue for anyone needing plumbing services (except sewer scopes, I don't believe they offer those)
