Say the word "lathe" to most moving companies and you hear a click on the other end. That is a customer's own line from an April 2026 review, and it points straight at what Big Hill Movers is for: the heavy, awkward, other-guys-said-no job. In March 2026 a homeowner bought a 496-pound safe, watched two friends back out once they learned the weight, and had Anthony's crew booked for Saturday morning with appliance dollies and a truck of blankets. When a baby grand arrived from Connecticut in January 2024 and the original company gave up before getting it into the room, Big Hill came, assessed it, and set the piano in place. The Acton company runs a 4.6 average across 55 Google ratings, and its written history is unusually specific for a small mover — reviewers name the crew, not just the company. Braden, Bento, Chris, Pat, Paul, Brandon and Felipe recur across five years of comments, praised in a May 2022 review for getting tall furniture up narrow staircases and in another that year for a Saturday office move that finished ahead of schedule so the business never shut down. Owner Anthony draws the same note over and over: quotes on the spot, often in minutes, and a phone he actually answers. The billing is where this record splits, and it splits hard. A November 2023 customer says a $2,300 quote came back as a $4,000 bill along with broken and missing items. A September 2024 reviewer describes being charged well past the estimate with no breakdown offered. A 2022 reviewer found a 3.5-hour minimum only in the fine print on a job that took 2.5 hours, plus a $75 fuel surcharge they say was never quoted. A July 2025 customer says the move was cancelled on the day and the deposit was not refunded. Two complainants add that the owner did not respond when they raised it afterward. Set against that: a 2022 reviewer specifically praises "no surprises like trying to change the bill," an office client the same year calls the costs transparent, one 2021 customer was charged less than the estimate because the job ran small, and a 2022 exercise-equipment customer says a cost misunderstanding was settled by compromise. Even the April 2026 reviewer who came back a second time acknowledges the cost complaints before saying the price was fair for them. The most recent negative comment is from July 2025. For a piano, a safe, a gym machine or a staircase nobody else wants, this is a well-evidenced call. Before booking, get the estimate in writing with the hourly rate, the minimum billable hours and any fuel or travel surcharge named on the document — that single step is what the unhappy reviews are all about. One 2025 comment also states the business is no longer at its listed address, so confirm where they are dispatching from.

“Big Hill Movers is great to work with. Dependable and the guys are upbeat and helpful. When I need movers I call Big Hill.”
Big Hill Movers were a life saver. I moved cross country and had issues with my container delivery. Big Hill Movers were so flexible and worked with me in getting my things to me quickly. They are very much appreciated!
I've used Big hill twice now moving items most movers hang up the phone on, say the word "lathe" and your going to here a click on the other end from most companies. They have moved my lathe, tool boxes and shop equipment. I see they have several poor reviews regarding cost, time, etc. This world is costly, life is expensive and made more so with formalities, pleasantries, paperwork and nonsense. These guys are young, they are busy, and if you want some stuff moved, pay them and it'll be moved. The price was fair and when the move was done I handed everyone on Anthony's team a $50 bill as a token of appreciation as things should be done . Thank you from Just ~ In Time Small Engine Repair.
I bought a large safe from tractor supply on Wednesday. On Thursday I had a couple of guys that were going to help me bring it in the house, but when they found out that the size of it and the fact that it weighed 496 pounds they chickened out so Friday I contacted Big Hill Movers. Within a few minutes and a couple of exchanges of photos I had it all set up for Saturday morning between eight and nine AM. Anthony and his crew showed up on time with a truck that had a couple large two wheelers, for moving appliances, dollies, and a multitude of moving blankets. The three of them took a look to see where it had to go and figured out how to do it. It was going to have to go down some cement cellar stairs to the back of the house and in and then eventually into another room in the finished part of the basement. The whole operation took about a half an hour. They were very fast and efficient and were very very careful with getting it down the stairs and into the house. It’s in pristine condition no damage whatsoever. Anthony and his two helpers were extremely easy to work with all they wanted is for you to just stand back and let them do their thing. When they were done, I jokingly referred to them as three goobers and a truck that caused quite a bit of laughter and I think it’s going to be their new nickname at least for me. If I need anything else moved, I’m going to be calling them because they really know what they’re doing.
I was delighted with Big Hill and their service for my local move between Lexington and Acton. They were careful and efficient and great to work with.
Made my move so easy! 10/10 shout out to Anthony!!
