Birch and Beam Construction

Two brothers from Peabody run Birch and Beam Construction out of Groveland — Joel Tomchik, a former firefighter who works as the company's carpenter, and Al Tomchik, who spent years in the military before taking the contractor's side of the business. They describe it as a family business rather than a production builder, working the North Shore on full remodels, additions, kitchens, baths, finished carpentry and ADU builds, with a standing bench of subcontractors and free at-home consultations. All of that is the company's own account of itself. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held in the company's own name. An intern writing on LinkedIn in July 2026 described the work as framing, drywall, roofing and finish carpentry coordinated with subcontractors — a small outside look at the kind of jobs the company takes. Worth asking for before you go further: addresses of recent North Shore remodels you can go see, and the names of the subcontractors they use regularly, since that network is part of what they are selling.
