Boston Custom Remodeling's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration (#186274, held by Boston Custom Remodeling, LLC) is revoked on the state registry. BBB lists the South Boston firm for home renovations, bathroom and kitchen remodeling, drywall, painting and flooring. In a September 2021 Google review, a customer said John took a $21,000 deposit for scaffolding work on their building, signed a contract, then disappeared and stopped returning calls, and that they had filed a criminal complaint. A March 2023 reviewer said their project was left completely unfinished. In a December 2023 review, a subcontractor John hired for boiler work said part of the payment was a check that bounced, and that John then stopped answering. A January 2023 BuildZoom reviewer who bought a house the company renovated called the finish work shoddy and said everything it did needed fixing by someone else. In December 2020, a BuildZoom customer said a $30,000 small-bathroom job had poor finish work and a shower fixture installed so that water got behind the new drywall, and that John did not answer texts or calls for over a month. On HomeAdvisor, a September 2018 customer said the crew cleared out of a roof deck job after being paid 80%, leaving a hole in the roof; a May 2018 customer said work paid for in February was never done, leaving a leaking sink and a buckling office floor; and a February 2018 customer said a job promised in six to eight weeks was still unfinished six months later, with calls unreturned. A December 2017 reviewer said the crew started without the proper permits and damaged a neighbor's apartment, and a September 2017 reviewer said a far smaller, cheaper window than agreed was put into a large frame. Earlier customers were happier. In February 2017, HomeAdvisor customers praised a two-bathroom job and a flooded condo the company rebuilt after pressing the insurer for a larger payout, and a January 2017 customer praised marble tile and custom cabinets at a reasonable price. On BuildZoom, a December 2020 customer said a bathroom and an addition went well, a March 2021 customer liked a bathroom renovation that ran a week long, and a May 2022 reviewer said a kitchen was finished on budget and on time.
