Lee has been wiring Greater Boston houses for sound since 2010, and what his customers write about most is what he talks them out of. "They give great advice and do not push products that you do not need," one wrote in September 2021. A 2013 customer with a projector budget said Lee worked inside it, helping choose the screen, the speakers and the remote rather than pushing past it.
Boston HiFi runs out of Needham and does home theater, structured wiring and whole-house automation for homes and businesses across New England; the company says it grew out of the founders' own A/V hobby. The crew turns up by name in the reviews — Kenny, the master electrician who on a July 2019 job mounted a TV on a red brick fireplace and hid the wiring; Leigh, who a customer in October 2021 said spent weeks answering questions before the indoor and outdoor speakers went in; Kevin, who set up a new smart TV in January 2020.
The jobs run from an hour of cable-fishing to a whole house. In February 2024 a customer had automated blinds, lighting and a home theater put in together. In October 2022 another had an entertainment centre built into a basement he had just spent a fortune finishing. A 2013 customer had a new-construction home pre-wired before the walls closed. And this July a former roadie who used to build sound systems himself handed over his entire house — wifi, amps, remotes — after weeks of researching who to let touch it.
Two things to raise before you book. A 2014 Angi customer said plainly that Boston HiFi cost more than the others he called, and hired them anyway. And the after-sale is where the complaint sits: a 2015 HomeAdvisor customer said that when something went wrong after his install the company would not service the products, and he hired another company. A 2022 customer described the opposite — Lee and Kenny answering questions by phone months after the job and walking him through replacing a faulty part. Clean-up splits the same way: a 2012 customer said the daily tidying fell short, while a 2014 customer said they insisted on cleaning everything up after he told them not to bother.
BuildZoom's profile lists ten permitted projects, mostly low-voltage and electrical wiring, and a Newton electrical contractor licence it last verified as active with a December 2022 expiration, now flagged there as having no active licence on file. If your job puts anything new inside a wall — a pre-wire, added circuits, a permit — ask who is pulling it and under whose licence before you sign.
