Boucher Energy Systems is a Mendon HVAC shop that has been installing central air in Massachusetts homes since 1981, and the through-line in what customers describe is the paperwork as much as the equipment. Heat pump after heat pump, reviewers mention the same thing: the crew handled the Mass Save rebate filings for them. The company says founder Roland Boucher still owns and runs it, that he has more than 40 years in HVAC including 28 years teaching the trade at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational High School, and that his sons Joel and Dan work in the business. Its Massachusetts HVAC license is active. On Google the score is 4.8 across 129 ratings, and five of them landed in the last six months, none negative. The recent ones read as variations on a theme — an aging mini-split replaced with a heat pump at what one caller in June 2026 called a reasonable price and put on the schedule quickly; another that same month said Boucher "took care of all the paperwork for the energy rebate"; a May 2026 customer whose central air has run without issue since installation credited the yearly preventative visits. A December 2025 review named Tina and Joel by name while working through the Mass Save process on mini splits for a new build. The BBB has graded it A+ and accredited it since 1999, and BuildZoom shows 35 projects with 12 permits in the past three years. The geothermal side is worth flagging because it is genuinely uncommon and genuinely dated here. In a July 2023 Reddit thread about ground source heat pumps, a homeowner said Boucher had done their install, called them "one of the few installers with a lot of experience" doing ground source, and said the company kept maintaining the system afterward. A second commenter in that thread described what that maintenance looks like: filters swapped twice a year plus an inspection, at a cost they remembered as well under what their oil furnace had run. The one thing to settle first is whether they will come to you at all. In that same 2023 thread, another homeowner reported simply that Boucher did not service their area, and the company's own stated service area is a tight ring — Mendon, Framingham, Franklin, Upton, Weston, Hopkinton and Wrentham. Call and confirm your town before you build a quote timeline around them. The right call if you are in that footprint and want a heat pump, mini-split or geothermal system installed by a long-established family shop that will drive the rebate paperwork. Confirm coverage for your address, and ask what the yearly maintenance visit costs before you sign.
“Boucher Energy doesn't service my area :(”
“Maintenance is less than for a furnace since nothing burns. Twice a year they replace filters and (I guess) lubricate the few moving parts. Mostly I think they are inspecting to make sure everything is running smoothly. I don't remember the exact cost for maintenance but I remember it being significantly less than what we paid on ur oil fired furnace.”
“We had Boucher Energy Systems ([BoucherEnergy.com](https://BoucherEnergy.com)) do the install and have no regrets. They are one of the few installers with a lot of experience doing ground source heat pumps. They did a great job and did a ton of the paperwork required to get all the rebates. They continue to maintain the system for us and I highly recommend them.”
Can't say enough good things about our experience with Boucher. One of our aging AC mini-splits failed, and they quickly put a quote together for a new system, a heat pump/AC unit this time. The price was reasonable. They then got us onto their schedule fairly quickly. They did a great job installing the new unit. At every stage, everyone has been very helpful, professional and patient. We will be working with them again.
We have worked with Boucher for many years. They just replaced an old AC unit with a heat pump. They did a great job and took care of all the paperwork for the energy rebate. They are easy to work with and are reliable.
Ever since Boucher installed our central air we have never had any issues. They are here yearly to do preventative maintenance and they are always kind and professional. They back their products and services. Very happy with them.
I highly recommend Boucher Energy Systems! They turned what felt like a very stressful situation into a great experience. The whole team was efficient, professional, and made the process easy from start to finish!
The Team at Boucher Energy Systems, Inc. were exceptionally professional, proficient, efficient and skilled. I had a whole new HVAC system installed, along with a new Hot Water Heater, and I cannot say enough about how impressed I was with there execution of the project. A team of about eight people working in and around a fairly small mechanical room space, completing demo of the old system and hot water tank and installation of the new furnace, tankless hot water heater and heat pump. All on one of the coldest days in January. Completed in one day and when they left, there was no evidence of the amount of work that had just taken place. Clean as a whistle!! I highly recommend Boucher Energy Systems, Inc. to anyone looking for HVAC services.
