Brausa Painting is a Somerville family business that, by its own account, has run since 2009 — 17 years doing painting, carpentry, and general construction work around the city. The record on file is a genuine split: painting-specific jobs draw consistently strong reviews, while two of the six written reviews describe serious problems on larger construction jobs. On the painting side, a 2023 review described a full house repaint as careful and detail-oriented, another described wall and ceiling refinishing — including wallpaper removal and patching — that came out looking sharp, and a 2024 review praised Antonio's crew for finishing on the estimated timeline with no extra charges and a clean site afterward. A 2022 review described a five-day basement renovation — a new concrete floor, a perimeter sidewalk, basement windows, and repointing — with an efficient, courteous crew that left the property in good shape despite digging four inches of gravel out of an 820-square-foot space. The two negative reviews, both from 2024, describe a different kind of trouble. One customer said they were told a licensed plumber and a tile specialist would handle a bathroom renovation, only to find it was the same person doing both — who opened a brand-new tile cutter and started reading the instructions on-site, then disregarded the customer's planned tile layout. Another described a deck repair, arranged through a property manager, where the crew flagged additional wood replacement that added 50% to the cost, then left the roof without shingles and the deck drainage improperly finished — resulting in repeated leaking into the porch below that two follow-up visits didn't fully resolve. Given that split, it's worth asking specifically who will be on your job and what trade licenses they actually hold, especially for anything beyond straight painting work.
“We were happy with BRAUSA https://brausapainting.com/”
I hired them to renovate my bathroom after Luis told me they had a licensed plumber and an amazing tile guy. Well, the plumber and tile guy were one and the same and the day they were starting the tile, they opened up a brand new tile cutter out of the box and started reading the instructions. They used a piece of cardboard as a spacer, so as soon as it got wet, the spacing started to get funky. I also laid out a mock-up on my kitchen table of how each row of tile was to line up that they completely disregarded after the first wall was done. I came home for lunch one day and they had installed the bullnose upside down! They also used the wrong blade for the tile cutter because all the cut edges are raggedy. I’m going to have to pay someone to redo most of it one day, which will involve me replacing the expensive Italian tiles. Aside from the horrible tile work, the window casing looks like it was put together with scraps of trim and they painted everything with a roller and didn’t full nail holes before doing so. Finally, we keep finding set screws on the floor and fixtures keep coming apart (faucet handles will come off in your hand, towel bars come loose from the wall, etc). I never pick the cheapest contractor but Luis and Antonio assured me I’d be pleased with the final product. It looks like I did it myself and I am not handy!
I HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE VERY PROFESSIONAL ANTONIO AND HIS CREW FROM THE MOMENT THEY WALKED IN MY HOUSE DID A GREAT JOB.ANTONIO FINISHED THE JOB ON THE ESTIMATE TIME LINE AND VERY CLEAN AROUND THE HOUSE NO EXTRA COST ON THE WORK DONE.ILL DEFINETLY RECOMEND BRAUSA TO ANYBODY...
Be warned and cautioned -- I hired them to repair/replace a deck via my property manager. During the course of the work they 'identified some wood that needed to be replaced', which cost 50% of the entire proposal. That should have been my first red flag. After they finished, Brausa left the roof unfinished with no shingles (see pictures), improperly installed the deck floor, and incorrectly finished the drain system. Every rain we would get leaking into the porch below. They came back twice over the last couple of years to 'patch' and both times left the roof with more problems than before. Now there's mold, rotted wood. For over two years they lied about the work and ignored my calls. Very disappointed in this group and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Be cautioned. Recommend against hiring these folks. What a shame.
So glad we chose Brausa to repaint our house. They are so careful, detail-oriented, and friendly. Fantastic work!
They refinished several walls and ceilings in my house, including wallpaper removal , patching and painting. It looks amazing!
