Brewster Appliance is a one-man appliance repair shop on Barons Way in Brewster, run by owner-technician Ford Kirkbride, that Lower and Mid Cape homeowners and seasonal-home owners call for washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, ice makers and stoves. Angi lists it as family-owned since 1986; the Better Business Bureau records it as started in 2009 with one employee, not rated and not accredited.
When the job is a mechanical fix on a familiar machine, the reviews are warm. A January 2020 Google reviewer had a Bosch washer with a locked door and a drain error fixed the day after calling, on time and politely; a seasonal-home owner in 2018 had used Ford several times across multiple appliances and called him prompt and very good at his job; another had an older stacked washer-dryer fixed on the evening of July 4th, 2017. The 2012 and 2013 Angi accounts are specific: a stove converted from propane to natural gas with the flames fine-tuned, a chest freezer's relay replaced at exactly the agreed time, an ice maker put back together instead of replaced (with a lesson in how to do it), leaking water-control valves found behind a washer the same day as the call, and a two-year-old refrigerator diagnosed after the manufacturer had brushed the owner off. Reviewers describe him as trustworthy, quiet, on time and willing to arrive early. Angi shows 4.5 stars from 15 reviews and Google 3.6 from 9.
The complaints are about newer, electronics-heavy machines and follow-through. One 2013 customer, writing on both Google and Angi, said Ford spent an hour and a half reading the pamphlet in front of a new front-loading washer, charged $95, left the machine broken, agreed by phone to a refund and never sent it. A 2014 Google reviewer made the same point more bluntly: fine for older washers and dryers, not for sensor-laden new ones. A 2012 Angi reviewer rated the work fine but said callbacks about arrival times, parts and messages were bad.
For an older or straightforward appliance on the Lower Cape, especially a refrigerator, freezer, dryer or gas stove, Brewster Appliance is a reasonable, personable call. For a newer front-loader or a control-board problem, ask up front whether he services that model and what the diagnostic fee covers if it cannot be fixed. The newest review is from 2020, so confirm he is still taking calls.
