Britton Homes' ratings barely move across platforms — 5.0 from 30 on Houzz, 5.0 from 15 on Google, 4.9 from 74 on Angi — for an Ashland, MA general contractor that's held BBB A+ accreditation since January 2012 and carries an active, state-verified Massachusetts home improvement contractor license. Run by Jim Britton with sons Patrick and Ryan and a crew that includes Dave, John, and Jay, the firm takes on additions, garages, attic conversions, and full kitchen and bathroom renovations across the Boston area. Its written record runs 34 reviews from 2016 through early 2026 across eight sources, and the same names keep reappearing because so many clients hire them more than once: a 2025 review describes a third project together in ten years, and a 2022 review describes three projects — a bedroom converted to a master bath, hardwood floors refinished, and the whole house repainted. The work described is substantial: full kitchen guts with load-bearing walls removed, additions with new foundations and framing, and whole-house renovations with new plumbing and electrical throughout. Reviewers keep pointing to the same trait — careful, exacting craftsmanship. In a 2017 review, a customer described Jim Britton tearing off a newly shingled roof and redoing it because the lines weren't perfectly straight, even though nothing was actually wrong with it. The one recurring caveat, raised in reviews from 2017 through a February 2026 review, is cost — several describe Britton as pricier than other contractors they'd quoted, while saying the results were worth it. A February 2026 Reddit thread also named Britton Homes as a general contractor recommendation. For a full renovation rather than a single-trade fix, that combination of license verification, an A+ BBB record, and a decade-plus of repeat clients makes a strong case; budget for their estimate to run above the initial comparison quotes.
“Britton Homes out of Ashland.”
It was a pleasure working with Dave, Ryan and crew from Britton Homes. Dave had told me during our first meeting that they would be prompt with responding and he was true to his word. Often times he or Ryan would respond within the hour. They are a little higher as far as price, but you get what you pay for! The quality of work was exceptional.

Excellent communication throughout the process. Very responsive to questions and concerns. Estimates were pretty accurate.
We are SO happy we ended up working with Britton Homes. We absolutely recommend using them for your home renovation projects. We were very impressed with all aspects of the work, but here are a few highlights. We used them for a full kitchen / dining room remodel, with a mudroom add-on. Besides what you would expect from a kitchen remodel, the work also included enclosing our breezeway and adding new footings to expand the footprint of the house. Length of project: about 4.5 months (final timing was only like a week behind the original schedule, which if you ask us was a month ahead of our expectations). Professionalism / Customer service: The folks at Britton are fantastic and they seem to have found the best folks in the field. Every person we met (from the day-to-day project manager, to the lead builder on site every day, to every subcontractor brought in (plumbing, electrical, etc) were all just great folks. Good people doing a good job. They were attentive to every single question, comment, and update we threw at them. Cost: In the initial conversations, Britton indicated that the way they do business was to do a very thorough scoping of the project and then the “estimate” provided is the number you pay, unless you change the scope. This was a huge selling point for us after hearing so many horror stories about contractors. As we went through the work, they would reach out with things that we should consider and how much additional it would cost. We said yes to some ideas, no to others. The final bill came and it was the exact amount agreed upon plus the amounts agreed to as we went. While not the lowest cost bid we received, having the certainty of the cost was great. Quality: We are very happy with the result. We’ve been living in our updated house for a couple months now and we haven’t had any issues. Everything is of excellent quality and looking like a million bucks. We are so proud to show off our new kitchen area to everyone we know. In summary, we give Britton 10 out of 10 stars. Attached are some after pics (and a couple before pics too just to give some idea of the complete overhaul our house was given!) to show off our amazing new space!
