Britton Homes is not the cheap bid, and its customers say so in the same breath as the praise. A February 2026 homeowner wrote that Dave promised prompt communication at their first meeting and then he or Ryan often answered within the hour — and, in the same review, that the company runs a little higher on price. A March 2017 customer put the trade-off plainly: certainly more expensive, but they never had to handle the issues and logistics themselves. That is what the money buys — a managed job. A January 2017 reviewer described Britton's project coordinator making sure every contractor turned up at the scheduled time, on a garage build that ran from digging the ground and laying the foundation through framing, roofing, finishing, painting and paving the driveway. The Ashland company says Jim Britton began building homes and remodeling around Greater Boston in 1979 and later focused the business on remodeling: kitchens, bathrooms and additions across Eastern Massachusetts. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #130323, is active, and the Better Business Bureau has it accredited with an A+ grade since 2012. People come back. An August 2025 reviewer had worked with Dave, Ryan, Jim and Patrick across three projects in ten years, the last the largest and most challenging. An April 2025 customer, also a decade in, had the basement, deck and screened porch renovated and said they stick to timelines. An October 2022 homeowner listed a former bedroom converted into a master bathroom, hardwood floors refinished, and the whole house repainted. The bigger jobs are where the detail lives. A June 2024 kitchen was a full gut that took down a load-bearing wall and opened up the first floor. A March 2024 renovation changed the floorplans of several rooms with all new plumbing and electrical while the family lived in another part of the house, and a January 2025 customer also stayed put through the work, crediting a crew that started on time and cleared up problems quickly. Price and scope are what to settle before signing. A September 2017 customer arrived with a lower estimate from another contractor and got Britton to adjust the parameters of the job to improve the pricing, so that conversation is worth having. A March 2025 reviewer singled out communication on estimates, timelines and change orders — ask how those are priced. And in September 2023, someone who called around got a call back saying others could do the work cheaper, with a name handed over. If you want a multi-trade remodel run by someone else while you keep living in the house, this is that outfit. Get the estimate itemized and the change-order process agreed in writing before demolition starts.

It was a pleasure working with Dave, Ryan and crew from Britton Homes. Dave had told me during our first meeting that they would be prompt with responding and he was true to his word. Often times he or Ryan would respond within the hour. They are a little higher as far as price, but you get what you pay for! The quality of work was exceptional.

We are SO happy we ended up working with Britton Homes. We absolutely recommend using them for your home renovation projects. We were very impressed with all aspects of the work, but here are a few highlights. We used them for a full kitchen / dining room remodel, with a mudroom add-on. Besides what you would expect from a kitchen remodel, the work also included enclosing our breezeway and adding new footings to expand the footprint of the house. Length of project: about 4.5 months (final timing was only like a week behind the original schedule, which if you ask us was a month ahead of our expectations). Professionalism / Customer service: The folks at Britton are fantastic and they seem to have found the best folks in the field. Every person we met (from the day-to-day project manager, to the lead builder on site every day, to every subcontractor brought in (plumbing, electrical, etc) were all just great folks. Good people doing a good job. They were attentive to every single question, comment, and update we threw at them. Cost: In the initial conversations, Britton indicated that the way they do business was to do a very thorough scoping of the project and then the “estimate” provided is the number you pay, unless you change the scope. This was a huge selling point for us after hearing so many horror stories about contractors. As we went through the work, they would reach out with things that we should consider and how much additional it would cost. We said yes to some ideas, no to others. The final bill came and it was the exact amount agreed upon plus the amounts agreed to as we went. While not the lowest cost bid we received, having the certainty of the cost was great. Quality: We are very happy with the result. We’ve been living in our updated house for a couple months now and we haven’t had any issues. Everything is of excellent quality and looking like a million bucks. We are so proud to show off our new kitchen area to everyone we know. In summary, we give Britton 10 out of 10 stars.
