In January 2026 a Google reviewer wrote that a Call The Whale technician on a simple maintenance appointment found a hole in their gas furnace slowly leaking CO into the basement, and the company replaced the boiler that same day, on a busy Friday before a below-zero weekend. The Williston company says it has been in business 20 years; Google shows 4.8 stars from 632 ratings and HomeAdvisor 4.5 from 425. In February 2026 Nick, Drew and Mark spent nearly 12 hours replacing a customer's water boiler. In September 2026 Jeremy and Brandon installed a new furnace and A/C for a Google reviewer, and in October 2026 Brent and Isaac installed a new heat pump system for another. In September 2026 an r/burlington commenter wrote that their twenty-plus-year-old system was replaced a couple days after first contacting the company, though they suspected it may not have been the cheapest route. In April 2026 a one-star reviewer wrote that they were quoted $14,000 for a new furnace when a $600 part repaired their hot water heater. The same month an r/vermont commenter wrote that Call the Whale gives no itemized list and quoted nearly double what others quoted for a hot water heater replacement. In October 2026 a customer wrote that their COMBI gas boiler had broken 3 times in 14 months and the company would not replace it. Another October 2026 reviewer wrote that the company expects customers to wait all day, and that on an appointment with a window the plumber showed up 3 hours early. In September 2026 a contractor running a permitted bathroom reno in Burlington wrote that the installers did not finish and, instead of returning the next morning, could not come back until Friday. Its BBB grade is A.
“We ended up using Call the Whale. Everyone from the initial customer service to the installers seemed to be happy. Suspect it may not have been the cheapest route but our twenty pluse year old system was replaced a couple days after first contacting them.”
“Don’t call the whale.”
“The only response I’ve received is from the Whale, they require a $89 deposit towards your bill to be added to the schedule but could not provide an estimate, stating the tech would give me one once they arrive.”
“Call the Whale is the exact same way. No itemized list, and they bill for the job regardless of the time it takes. They quoted me nearly double what everyone else was quoting for a hot water heater replacement.”
“We’ve had luck with ‘Call the Whale’”
Been waiting for a month to hear back from them. Full story. Tech came out recommended a new rinnai heater. I called rinnai and parts are still under warranty for the unit I currently have. Called the whale back passed on the info. After a month still no call back. $95 thrown away. They need to learn how to follow up and fix things and not just run away with a little cash. If they read this and make it right I’ll change my review. Sad it came to this point.
Josh came out the next day to give me a quote. Nick and Jason came out two days later to replace the water heater. Everyone was incredibly professional, super friendly, and they all did a stellar job. Pricing and communication was straightforward. Highly recommend. Thanks!
The Whale has Excellent service throughout with very knowledgeable and friendly technicians thanks to Brent and Isaac for a excellent installation of my new heat pump system.
Call The Whale (CTW) literally “had me at hello.” I love that they answer the phone–I mean they answer it–not some AI feature that screens calls and gathers info first. I am embarrassed to admit I have been meaning to write this since JULY 2026!! I needed an AC repair in July. I wasn’t sure what the issue was, but my AC was not cooling the house. I called a few AC repair shops and was getting so discouraged because no one answered the phone. I decided to try one more place. It sounded like such a weird name, but I tried “Call The Whale.” I assumed they were a big business–I had seen their vans around town and concluded they probably would not have great customer service, but I was getting desperate. I was so wrong! They had great customer service–they answered the phone EVERY time I called. And no matter who answered, they were always friendly and helpful. AND, happily, CTW is NOT a big business. It is a wonderful local, family owned business. From start to finish, CTW was fantastic. They assessed the issue and offered me several detailed solutions so I could compare associated costs and benefits of each choice. When they returned to actually fix the problem, they were highly efficient–and I really appreciated how they kept me informed when the team was heading to my home for the appointment. I highly recommend CTW!
They have a terrible scheduling system. Unlike most vendors who give a 2-4 hour window, they expect you to wait all day. Then I had an appt with a window and the plumber showed up 3 hours early. I thought the plumber was good - Ryan - he just drained my 4 yr old tank- but now I have a tiny bit of water in the tray and it is making the alarm ring very loudly. Unclear if that is left from draining or if the valve was not fully closed. So now I don’t trust the plumber. The alarm has been ringing for 40 mins and no one is calling me back. The answering service is not helpful. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLUMBER.
