Castle Bay Construction is a Waltham-based roofing shop with a specific craft: slate and copper work, plus the custom sheet-metal detailing that goes with it, gutters, downspouts, chimney caps, that many general roofers don't do. The company says it works the Boston, Massachusetts area, and on Angi its five reviews, all posted in 2024, are five-star, with one theme running through nearly every one: people asking for the owner, Ed (Edvin), by name. The clearest example: in a 2024 review, a homeowner described calling during a winter storm with 60 mph winds and having Ed and his crew on the roof within the hour, rigging a temporary fix until a full repair was possible. Another 2024 review describes a harder job, a Victorian home with rotted siding that turned out to hide a failed support beam once the crew opened the wall, work the reviewer said was handled thoroughly, with steady communication about the schedule. A third, also from 2024, describes hiring Castle Bay for roof repairs ahead of a solar install; the reviewer said Ed walked through what actually needed doing versus what didn't, rather than pushing a full re-roof. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, verified directly against the state registry (HIC #211880), and matches the number Angi lists for the company. The reviews on file are a small set, five, all posted the same month in 2024, so there isn't yet a long written track record to weigh. What's there points the same direction: an owner-run crew people call for storm repairs and copper/slate detailing. Worth asking directly about current turnaround and pricing before booking, since none of the reviews speak to either.
Edvin is a talented and honest contractor who knows his stuff. Service oriented, reachable and stands behind his work. I called him once for a roofing emergency during a storm in the middle of winter. He was on site with his team within an hour and climbed the roof in 60 MPH winds and devised a temporary fix until he could replace my roof in warmer climate. A true professional.
We hired Castle Bay Construction to do some roof repairs before we installed solar panels. Ed, the owner, was great to work with. He responded promptly and was very punctual. He took great care to answer all of our questions and to explain what he thought needed to be done and what our options were. Just as importantly, he explained what was not necessary to be done. He seemed very honest and didnât try to upsell us repairs we didnât need. We talked about the trade-offs of repairing the roof vs installing a new roof. He gave us an estimate for a new roof because we asked for it but he told us that he thought we didnât really need it. They may not be the cheapest roof contractor out there, but I would hire him again if we needed roof work done. Thatâs about the highest recommendation I can think of.
Our Victorian home had some rotted siding, and Castle BayConstruction not only diagnosed the problem, but were able to repair the extensive damage that became apparent only after opening up the house. They handled replacing a major support beam, and many other details in a timely and professional manner. Their work crew is extremely knowledgeable and hard working. They followed through on every detail, and always communicated with us about their procedures and work schedule. I highly recommend them!
Edvin and his team were great. He was easy to communicate with and a pleasure to work with. They made sure everything was done properly and thoroughly. Would definitely recommend using them and I plan on using them for future projects.
Edvin did a quick and quality job. I would recommend this company to my friends
