Central Cooling & Heating has been in business since 1966, working out of Woburn and covering Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk counties with HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance. It's a BBB-accredited, A+-rated company with thousands of Google reviews, and the reviews read less like isolated compliments than a consistent operating style: technicians who introduce themselves by name, explain what they're doing, and check their work before leaving. Customers keep naming the same handful of techs and asking for them specifically — one review describes a customer who always requests the same tech because he keeps her informed and doesn't disrupt the house, and another has held annual contracts for many years and is consistently pleased with the regular and emergency service. On Reddit, multiple independent posters describe using the company for years (one for nine years, another for three) without complaint, and several specifically credit Central Cooling with handling Mass Save rebate and no-interest-loan paperwork on their behalf — a detail that comes up often enough across separate 2021-2024 threads to be a real distinguishing feature, not a one-off. The recurring knock, also from more than one independent source, is price. Reddit posters comparing quotes in 2024 called the company 'the highest by far' and 'most expensive of the big contractors,' and a 2026 review put their pricing at roughly three times what comparably qualified competitors charge — though that same reviewer noted they respond fast if you need next-day service. A handful of 2026 reviews describe real misses: one customer paid $653 to have two mini-splits serviced and found a unit pouring water into the living room less than an hour after the technician left; a January 2026 review said a promised callback from a technician never came; another felt the technician did only the required maintenance and had to be prompted to do more, calling past techs noticeably better. One more thing worth knowing: the company's Massachusetts HVAC license is currently showing expired in the state registry. For routine maintenance, repair, or a Mass Save-eligible installation, the volume of specific, named-technician praise here is hard to match locally — get an itemized quote given the repeated price complaints, and ask directly about the license status before signing a contract.
“I know others who use Central Cooling.”
“Central cooling and Heating has been superb for us.”
“Vetted through a bunch of local providers and larger chains last year and settled on Central Cooling & Heating in Woburn. Pricing was competitive and they had the best brand optionality. Have been happy with the proactive outreach and free annual service (maybe just for year one) since then.”
“They aren't on the cheap end, but I've used both Central Cooling and NE Ductless in the past and have been pleased with the quality of their work and their professionalism.”
“We used Central Cooling and Heating for our AC 3 years ago and have no complaints. We used a mass save no interest loan and they facilitated that process for us with very little work on our end.”
“Founded in Woburn, Massachusetts in 1966, Central Cooling & Heating provides HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance services across Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk County.”

Marcus repaired our cooling system today. He was proficient and knowledgeable. Central Cooling is our go to HVAC company. Thanks to Marcus and the easy scheduling and timely service during a heat wave.
Update July 2026: We required after-hours emergency service when our new, 1st floor heat pump system stopped working. Brian arrived within an hour (outstanding!), and was very professional, polite, and great to have “on the case.” Unfortunately, Brian’s diagnosis was that one (or possibly two) circuit boards were the culprit and so he was unable to repair the system. We were told that the main board would take 2-7 business days to obtain, and that the other board was back-ordered(!). Ugh. The main board did take about a week to arrive. Fortunately, we had a break from the extreme hot weather. Just in time, before the next heat wave, Abdel arrived with the new board in hand. Though at the very end of a long work day, Abdel was super friendly and worked tirelessly to install the new board and properly configure the system. We could not have been happier when crisp, cold air began flowing from the system. With this next, extreme, heat wave hitting us, we are indeed very happy with Central Cooling & Heating. And great job, Abdel! PREVIOUS POSTS: High-quality, thorough, reliable service. I’ve been consistently happy for *decades*. Most recent maintenance by Jonathan was superb! The entire team is excellent. Will use them for new system installation when the time comes. Update May 2024: Prompt emergency service (with service plan) when the upstairs system shut down. Problem was thoroughly diagnosed & corrected by Jonathan (again, he is great to work with!). Cooling down nicely, whew! Update September 2024: Visited today for regular maintenance by Pasquale. You could not ask for a better experience! Pasquale was absolutely polite, professional and thorough in his work. A great technician who you can feel very comfortable having in your home. Thank you!
Brendan was thorough, professional and accommodating. Highly recommend him!
