Certified Chimney Inspection Services is a Rhode Island company based in North Smithfield that sweeps, inspects, repairs and relines chimneys, with masonry repointing and cap work alongside it, and says on its own site it's been doing this across Providence County and the rest of Rhode Island since 2000, now marketing into Connecticut, Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Its technicians are stated to be CSIA-certified. The track record splits cleanly by era. Between 2017 and 2021 the company built a strong HomeAdvisor history — 4.6 stars across 29 ratings, 90% of them five stars — with reviewers repeatedly describing clear walkthroughs of the work; one 2020 review noted the technicians' "explanation of the work needed... along with before and after photographs." That run wasn't spotless: a 2021 review described a repaired leak recurring with no records kept of the original job or its warranty, and a 2018 review accused the company of running fake reviews on Angie's List and HomeAdvisor — an allegation this record can't verify either way. Then the picture changes. On Google, four reviews running from 2023 through 2026 are uniformly one star and describe the same pattern: missed appointments, a no-show blamed on an employee accident or other commitments, and difficulty getting a straight answer when rescheduling. BBB carries two more negative accounts, including one from a customer who set out to call a different, similarly-named chimney company and ended up connected to this one instead. Worth asking about directly: BBB gives the company an A letter grade, but its own write-up says the business wasn't transparent about its ownership, location or services, that mail it sent to the company's listed Nashua, New Hampshire address came back undeliverable, and that it couldn't confirm the business was even registered in New Hampshire. The company's own website puts its headquarters in North Smithfield, Rhode Island — not Nashua — so the New Hampshire address on file with BBB, and on HomeAdvisor's separate Nashua-branded profile, looks like a leftover marketing address rather than a working office. This is a chimney specialist with real inspection and masonry-repair history going back years, but the run of recent Google complaints about scheduling and the unresolved questions about its New Hampshire listing are worth raising before booking — get a firm appointment window in writing and confirm which address and phone number you're actually dealing with.
The worst customer service ever! I scheduled an appointment for my only day off, and no one showed up. I called to ask what the problem was, and they said the employee had other things to do and couldn’t make it. I said that was fine, but asked them to reschedule for Saturday. Even then, the employee was an hour and a half late. I was disappointed and called another company.
Edit 4/5/24: In regards to the companies response. 1. Just because you don't like the response of a customers review doesn't make it defamation. There's a correlation between our experience and the experience of MANY other customers you've had. Customer service, communication ability and craftsmanship are among the leading culprits. 2. I was here the entire time. My window is right above the basement door and your employee was yelling at the other guy who was on the roof and slammed the door multiple times going in and out. I went downstairs to ask my father what the problem was and why the guy was yelling and swearing in the driveway as I'm on calls. It's unprofessional. It might be the environment you enjoy but it's not the environment you bring to a customers house. I've never experienced someone coming to service the house and they act like that. 3. If the call you had with my mother was recorded then you would have her asking multiple times for you to come back out and fix the crooked chimney cover. It's visibly crooked in the picture, leaning forward like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Do you not believe in doing things the right way? 4. I answered the phone when the office manager, CEO or whoever he proclaims himself to be called back and handed the phone to my mother and stood next to her for the duration of the call ..So It wasn't " second hand". I heard the guy he was rude and condescending. The entire time the individual on the other line was doing everything they could to get off of the phone. The man asked my mother "what the goal was".. The goal was the fix the leaning and ready to fall off chimney cover. I would actually love a copy of the call. It would be excellent to highlight the number of times she asked for it be put back on correctly. It will be fun when the thing falls off and breaks something and then the small claims court comes into play. If the call was recorded you would notice that a man answered the phone when you called back. That was me. So up to this point if everything was documented on your end there has been no lies from my end. Unfortunately I wasn't wearing a body cam and was on a call when the lead employee was outside my window screaming and swearing at the other guy on the roof. Pretty sure the poor guy he was yelling at was named Kyle. Did I make up that name too or was that the techs name? Then you got excited to use my mother swearing as a cop out and a way to get off the phone. She was expressing her anger towards my father for being in a situation where she had to be on the phone dealing with the horrible experience that he didn't want to be bothered with. But again its pretty obvious that all of your responses to reviews and online comments that you jump to a defensive and confrontational tone immediately. The easiest way to remove accountability is to blame the customer. In many instances your responses online are childish and combative. The reality is that when my mother called asking to get the cover straightened out and put back on correctly you just didn't want to come back. In your mind, you didn't care and you just wanted us to "deal with it". Lastly, I'm curious as to what email you sent the receipt to? My father doesn't have an email address so what email would he be figuring out how to open if he doesn't have one? He always provides my email address for correspondence and I've yet to see an email on my end in my inbox or spam folder. So it's pretty obvious no email was sent. Unless you sent it to a secret inbox I'm unaware of. Not sure why I would lie about receiving a receipt. Strange thing to lie about. The confrontational nature of your responses to not just me but other customers shows that there's a lack of customer service skills and professionalism and probably some insecurity of the quality of your work. Focus a little bit less on threatening your customers and maybe focus just a tad bit more on being professionals.
I will forego sharing all the details. This is a Summary: Worker did not show at first scheduled appointment. 3 hours after I received both a text and e-mail that they were on their way I called to inquire why they had not shown up. I was told they had been in an accident. They rescheduled me for 1 week later. This time they apparently arrived at my home 1.5 hours prior to the window of time I was assigned. When I realized this I called the company and they told me the workers had already made an attempt and would not be returning that day. What is the point of assigning a time window?? I am a full-time health care worker. It is not always easy to get time off for these things, which I had told them. I wasted so much time. Worst customer service. I ended up calling another company.
Never will I deal with them again. They were a day late, Rescheduled for the next day. We were given an ETA and they were an hour late after calling and saying 15 minutes. Then come with a homeowner ladder that doesn't reach the top of the house. Telling me it needs to be deep cleaned without looking at anything when it is cleaned annually. After all of that telling me to reschedule, telling me it is going to be 8X as expensive from what they told me the price was. Horrible business and horrible ethics.
Zack and Rob from Certified Chimney were outstanding to work with. I requested their services for inspection of a chimney in a historic (late 1700’s) property I am in the process of purchasing. Certified Chimney’s appointment process was straightforward, and worked well. I got a call from Zack when he was 35 minutes out. He and Rob were extremely courteous, cheerful, and professional throughout the inspection. They obviously have deep knowledge of chimney systems, and a wealth of experience in dealing with them. Zack and Rob performed a very thorough inspection of the chimney, including the furnace flue as well as the fireplace and its flue, from basement to roof and chimney top. They identified and clearly explained a number of problems, and outlined what they saw the options to be for addressing them. Seriously, their explanations and contemplation of the specific, rather complex situation in this house were truly excellent. Additionally, they took and provided me with clear, useful photos for reference, and I am anticipating an accompanying written report - be sure to request this additional service if you need it for something like a real estate transaction (thank you, George!). I was most impressed, and highly recommend Certified Chimney’s inspection services.
