When a couple needed their 200-year-old Chatham house renovated and expanded without upsetting the neighbours or the town, they hired Fred Cheney — and in a June 2014 review said he was wonderful in every part of it. That is the kind of work customers describe: careful jobs on older Cape Cod houses, run by the man whose name is on the truck. Another 2014 customer, writing about a basement remodel and a run of earlier jobs, called him extremely fussy and a neat worker, all about the details, and someone who starts and finishes when he says he will. A March 2016 customer was pleased enough with a new screen porch — finished quickly so they had it for the summer — that they brought him back to renovate their mother's kitchen. The most recent written account, from March 2020, simply says they would not hesitate to recommend him. Cheney works Orleans, Eastham, East Harwich and North Chatham, and his Houzz page lists home remodeling, additions, custom homes, decks, basements, framing and roof replacement among what he takes on. Two things to factor in. The written accounts are dated — the newest is from March 2020 and the three fullest are from 2014 and 2016, so they describe how he worked then rather than this season, though a Harwich neighbour still posted his name and number on Nextdoor in April 2025. And the Houzz page mixes an Eastham town name with Brewster's 02631 ZIP, while the yellow-pages listing gives 110 Serb Street in Eastham, so confirm where he is based when you call. For a porch, an addition or a remodel on an older Cape house where the detail work matters, Fred Cheney is worth a call; ask to see a recent project, given how far back the written accounts go.
