Coelho Contracting has been pulling building permits around Boston for two decades without collecting a single online review — 44 projects logged on BuildZoom, and empty review tabs on Houzz, BuildZoom and the BBB. The Medford company works out of 872 Fellsway and, per its BBB profile, was incorporated in January 2002 and is run by Karla Coelho as president with two employees. Its own site puts roofing, painting, carpentry and kitchen and bathroom renovations under one roof, and says it specializes in environmentally friendly materials. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #170590, is active. What stands in for a review history here is the permit trail: BuildZoom counts 44 projects, mostly in Brookline, Malden, Somerville, Cambridge and Newton, and puts the company's score at 119. The BBB grades it A+, though it is not accredited there. The one first-hand account anywhere is a LinkedIn recommendation posted in July 2026, where a business owner wrote that Coelho handled a commercial build-out — floors laid, walls painted — and that Karla and her staff were always on time and finished the job to their satisfaction. That is a thin basis for judging craftsmanship. One recommendation and a stack of permits tell you the company is real, licensed and working steadily; they don't tell you how it handles a job that goes sideways. BuildZoom additionally lists a Massachusetts construction supervisor licence and a lead-safe renovation registration for the company, but those are the directory's own listings rather than something confirmed against the state. If you want a small, long-established Medford outfit that can carry a whole renovation rather than a single trade, this is a reasonable call. Ask for two or three recent local references, confirm who will actually be on site given the two-person payroll, and get the scope and schedule in writing before anyone starts.
