Northern Comfort Heating & Air Conditioning is the family-owned HVAC shop Eric Costa runs out of Bridgewater, serving homes and businesses across Eastern and Southern New England. The company's own site says it's been at this over 50 years, though its About and Team pages separately describe "over 20 years" of service — worth asking about directly if the company's history matters to you. The last six months tell a clear story: seven Google reviews, all positive, and the same name keeps coming up. Customers describe Eric as extremely responsive — a text or call away, with proactive daily updates during a project tied to the Mass Save program in June 2026 — and a May 2026 review called out a fair-priced, on-time AC service visit. Another May 2026 review described a mini-split installation for elderly parents where the crew took the extra time to walk them through using the remote. A third May 2026 review praised the honesty of a furnace assessment: rather than push a replacement, the technician explained the old system still had life left, which built enough trust that the customer chose Northern Comfort when a new system was eventually needed. That reputation for showing up and being straightforward goes back further. A 2022 review recalls a boiler installation that was clean and finished on schedule, with neighbors who used the company afterward becoming repeat customers. On Thumbtack, the company (listed jointly with Eric's construction business, ECosta Development) holds a 5.0 rating from five reviews. Two older reviews are worth knowing about before booking. A property manager's February 2026 review described a $1,600 charge — including an $800-an-hour rate and a $300 diagnostic fee — for a non-emergency no-heat call, with a price dispute that wasn't resolved before payment. And a September 2025 review described a week-long wait for a technician after an AC breakdown, followed by a $20,000 replacement quote with no itemized breakdown despite repeated requests for one. Northern Comfort is a solid call for routine HVAC work — installs, tune-ups, and honest diagnostics are what its recent reviews consistently describe. Given the pricing and quote-transparency complaints from earlier this year and last, it's worth asking for an itemized estimate and confirming rates up front, especially for anything outside routine service.
“Then Aunt Theckla pulled out her furnace cards & called Northern Comfort.”
I’m not sure if there is enough space in this text box to summarize all the outstanding things I have to say about Eric and the team!! From the very beginning, we knew we were in the very best of hands. Eric was kind, approachable, patient with all our questions, and extremely thorough with his explanation of each of the steps of our project - up to and including walking us through best practices for the Mass Save program. Eric was extremely responsive- always a text or a call away - providing proactive updates and recaps every day. My biggest take away from our project was how efficient and clean everything was. Day 1, by 8:00am sharp, I had 6 trucks and 10 guys in my driveway! By day 3, they had substantially completed the job. And by day 4, Eric was showing me how to use my t-stat. All the while not so much as a spec of sawdust was left behind. In fact, my wife was excited (nagging me) that our garage was exponentially cleaner after the project than before!! If possible, I’d give Eric 10 stars. Came in as a vendor and left as a friend; I could not recommend him and the team highly enough!!
Northern Comfort serviced my AC this past season. I can’t speak highly enough about them , the service tech was on time and very courteous. The job was finished on time for a reasonable price. Highly recommend
Unreal service. Company is top notch Eric is one of the easiest guys to talk to and understand. His cell phone is always on and he’s always available. 10/10
Eric, Sandy and the team are fantastic!
Put in 2 mini splits at my elderly parents house last year and was a smooth transition! The house is an older cape with 2 floors. The company took the time to show them how to use the remote too! Which wasn’t easy for my parents as they are in their late eighties! Several phone calls and visits and they are very happy with their system! I would highly recommend this company for any heating/cooling needs you have! Saves money in the heating months to !!
