Cross Rip Builders is a Nantucket custom home builder that says it was established in 1996 and is run as a family business by three partners — Rhett Dupont, Joe Gamberoni and Rich Gammons. By its own account the firm began as Cross Rip Construction specialising in historic renovations before expanding into new construction, and today handles new builds, renovations, additions and island property management, working only on Nantucket.
The customer record is small but consistent and credible. Google publishes a 5-star average from four ratings, and all three retrievable reviews are distinct first-hand voices rather than one-line filler: a homeowner who signed as Dan Lufkin wrote in a 2024 review that "Cross Rip built our home" and praised trust, integrity and character alongside the quality of the work, while a 2023 reviewer named all three partners — "Joe Rhett and rich are by far top notch in every aspect of their profession".
What the design press adds is unusual for a firm this size and is worth as much as the review count. New England Home Magazine reported in 2019 that the homeowners on a Nantucket project recruited architect Mark Cutone, interior designer Audrey Sterk and Joe Gamberoni of Cross Rip Builders and that they "couldn't have been a better choice"; the Nantucket Current has twice described island properties as renovated by or brought to fruition by the firm, in 2024 and 2025; and a railings fabricator has published an account of working with Cross Rip Builders on a surfside beach house renovation. Collaboration with named architects and interior designers is the recurring pattern.
The one thing to raise before signing is licensing. The Massachusetts registry confirms Home Improvement Contractor registration 184417 as EXPIRED, and its holder of record is CROSS RIP DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION — a differently-named entity that shares this firm's Nobadeer Farm Road address, its phone number and partner Richard Gammons, but is not Cross Rip Builders itself. A BuildZoom page filed under that same Development Corporation name reports the registration inactive and at one point cancelled. Which entity would sign a homeowner's contract, and under what current registration, is a question for the company and for the state's HIC lookup.
This reads as the right call for a substantial Nantucket new build or historic renovation run alongside an architect and designer, and a poor fit for a small one-off repair. Confirm the contracting entity's current HIC registration with the Commonwealth before any deposit, and ask which of the three partners will run the job.
