Doyle Wood Flooring is a Halifax-based, family-run shop that's been doing hardwood floors on the South Shore since 1975, when Philip Doyle Sr. started it as a small operation; his sons Phil, John, Mike and Jeff took over when he retired in 2020, and the crew is Bona Certified and belongs to the National Wood Flooring Association. The reviews back up that pedigree. Google shows a 5-star average across 8 ratings and Houzz shows the same across 5 (plus a handful of Houzz badges and awards), and the eleven written accounts on file — running from 2016 through this year — describe the same things over and over: accurate quotes, dust-contained sanding, and crews that show up and finish on schedule. The most recent, from earlier this year, describes a full first-floor makeover that went so well the customer is already lined up to have them do the second floor. The strongest account is a 2022 review: a homeowner replacing kitchen and living-room floors to match the rest of an older house hit wood rot and the remains of a brick stairway once the old flooring came up — the kind of thing that turns a straightforward job into a headache — and the crew, with co-owner Jeff staying closely in touch throughout, worked it out and matched the new floors in anyway. That pattern of sticking with a job through surprises shows up elsewhere too: a 2020 Houzz review describes John and Jeff Doyle personally measuring and consulting on a three-room carpet-to-maple conversion before handing it to the installation and finishing crews, and a 2023 review notes it was that customer's third project with Doyle, following two earlier ones that also came in as quoted. Older Houzz reviews from 2016 and 2017 tell a consistent story too — dust-free equipment, courteous crews, work finished on budget — so this isn't a recent hot streak, it's a business that's held the same standard for a decade. There's nothing negative here to flag. Anyone considering a South Shore hardwood job, especially in an older house where surprises are likely once the old floor comes up, is a good fit here — just confirm current scheduling given how often past customers come back for a second project.

Went with Doyle for our first floor that needed a total makeover. Extremely satisfied with the work and how timely they were. Definitely using them when we do our second floor
I’m ashamed to admit the number of floor contractors I had quote our upstairs project: remove old carpet and lay new wood floors down. Jeff came in, saw the chaos that was our family and helped us zero-in on pre-finished floors in the same plank as our hallway. He suggested we leave the hallway as is and refinish it when we eventually refinished our first floor wood. His quote was timely, fair, accurate, and his team was professional and punctual from start to finish. We couldn’t be happier with the end product and are so appreciative for their work! Thank you, Doyle!
Jeff and his team did a great job on our new floors! Their prices are great, service even better, and their craftsmanship was exactly what I was looking for! Check them out!
Absolutely cannot say enough good things about these guys. They worked with us to find the right flooring solution for our house including laying down new flooring in part of the house and sanding and refinishing the floors throughout the rest. They were so helpful and brought their expertise to make sure the finished product was spectacular. And they were willing to work with us remotely as we were not in town during the renovation. Doyles is top notch!!
Another excellent job done for us. This time in our basement. This was the third project they have done for us and, as they've done in the past, did a great job. Looks phenomenal and price came in as quoted. Perhaps equally important, they are all always a pleasure to work with. We recommend them to family and friends whenever we can.
