Tarca Construction at the custom end of the building trade rather than the repair end. The Hopkinton company describes itself as a builder and renovator of custom homes, with a 1,500-square-foot design center and an in-house millwork shop that fabricates its own cabinetry and moldings; its site names Ed as the person leading the team. It self-reports about 20 years in business, and BBB puts the start date at January 2004 with three employees. What homeowners have written is warm and old. Its Houzz page averages 5.0 across 22 ratings, and the reviews posted there between 2016 and 2019 describe relationships rather than one-off jobs. One homeowner, writing in 2016, said Ed had built their first house more than two decades earlier, then a second, then an extensive kitchen renovation with cabinetry made in his own carpentry shop, then a remodel of their Cape Cod summer home. Another 2016 review described a kitchen renovation that involved moving a support wall to open the room up. A third traced the relationship back to 1997 and listed a finished basement, a home gym, a carriage house and a driveway snowmelt system. Read those with one caveat: several of the Houzz posts come from architects, a millwork supplier and other trade partners who worked alongside the company rather than from the homeowners who paid for the work. On Google there is a single rating — five stars, one word, posted in 2023. A Boston Design Guide article from 2020 describes Ed Tarca being approached by the Gary Sinise Foundation to build an accessible home for a wounded Army captain, in a Hopkinton neighborhood the company had already built. The paperwork is in order. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #165060, is active, and the state registry names the company itself as the holder. BuildZoom lists an older Massachusetts registration, #140949, as cancelled, alongside a construction supervisor licence for 1- and 2-family homes. BBB grades it A+, though it isn't BBB accredited. Call them for a ground-up house, a substantial addition, or a kitchen rebuilt with cabinetry made rather than ordered. The thing to press on is currency: nearly everything homeowners have said publicly predates 2020, so ask for references from jobs finished in the past year or two, and get the millwork scope written down before you sign.
