EarthTech Systems is a family-owned heating and cooling contractor in Tyngsborough that works almost entirely in ground-source and air-source heat pumps — geothermal loops, radiant heat, snowmelt, tankless and combi boilers. Customers deal with a small set of people by name: Terry on assessments and design, Elijah on service calls, plus Ryan and Aliza. The installs people describe are full conversions of old houses. A February customer replaced an oil burner and hydro-air system with geothermal; another had a groundwater heat pump designed for a 2,400-square-foot home after a MassSave insulation upgrade the system required. A 2023 homeowner had a three-ton water-to-air ground source heat pump put in on two 360-foot closed vertical loops, replacing an oil furnace and adding central air to an 1890s house. Another 2023 job pulled an inefficient boiler and refitted an old house with ducts and vents. In January a customer had geothermal plus a hybrid water heater installed and says Terry and Ryan advised them on insulation to run it more efficiently. They take on other people's problems too. A February 2025 homeowner whose geothermal installer abandoned the project mid-job says EarthTech picked it up. A new homeowner in May 2025 whose system ran up electricity bills says the company paused service payments while they chased the cause, which turned out to be a manufacturer defect. In June 2025 Ryan and Elijah diagnosed an air-to-water heat pump that had been designed wrong by its manufacturer. Terry called one customer back on a Sunday in July about a geothermal unit that had stopped cooling. Price and follow-through are the sore points, and they recur. A May reviewer put it directly: great technical knowledge and explanations, but the cost was incredibly high. On Reddit's geothermal forum in 2023 someone said EarthTech's proposal came in at nearly twice another installer's, though a different commenter there in 2022 said they were extremely happy with the company. A June 2025 customer says a basic quote never came. Two installation complaints are serious: an October 2024 reviewer says mistakes on a heat pump installation cost them more than twenty thousand dollars, and a December 2024 minisplit customer describes an installation riddled with problems. A May 2023 reviewer titled their account "beware of dishonesty" over a quoted three-way valve actuator replacement on a tankless boiler, and a 2024 customer, otherwise happy with Elijah, said the upstairs makeup air was not fixed as they had understood it would be. Google shows 4.7 stars across 158 ratings and the Better Business Bureau grades the company A+. The website says the technicians are recognized and licensed by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association, that the company belongs to the New England Geothermal Professional Association, and that it holds master sheet metal licences. If you want a geothermal or ground-source conversion, especially a complicated retrofit, this is a company that does them every week — get a written quote with a date on it, compare it against at least one other geothermal installer, and confirm in writing exactly which zones and equipment the contract covers.
