Extreme Plumbing is a Haverhill shop built for the call that can't wait — a burst water heater at 10pm, a boiler down on the coldest night of the year, a flooded basement on Christmas Day. It holds a 4.7★ average across 64 Google ratings, and the write-ups describe a consistent pattern: someone calls in an emergency, and Ernie or his crew — Sal, Paul, Dominic, Mike, and others — show up within hours, sometimes the same night. The full record runs back to 2021 across five sources, and the pace hasn't slowed: 11 new reviews landed in just the past six months, none of them negative. Water heaters and boilers are what the record leans on hardest, with replacements described as routine same-day or next-morning work. In a February 2026 review, a customer whose heating system failed on the coldest night of the year described the crew arriving by 8:30 the next morning, driving to three stores to find space heaters to bridge the gap, then replacing the whole system by Monday. A 2024 review describes a customer given three priced options for a failing hot water heater within two hours of calling, with the job then moved up a full workday to spare a longer wait. Communication comes up often, too — Ernie is described repeatedly as explaining the diagnosis and the fix in plain terms before starting work. Pricing draws mixed reactions. Most reviewers call it fair or reasonable, several noting no surprise charges beyond the original quote, but a handful disagree sharply: one review describes being quoted a flat rate three times higher than two competing bids with no straight answer on how long the job would take, another calls the company "a total ripoff," and a third simply says prices are high and communication is poor. These sit apart from an otherwise strongly positive record, but they're worth asking about directly. Its Massachusetts plumbing license is active, and its Better Business Bureau grade is A+. Before booking, get the price in writing and confirm what it covers — that's the one thing the handful of unhappy reviewers wish they'd pinned down first. Otherwise this reads like a strong call for a plumbing or heating emergency in the Merrimack Valley, particularly anything involving a water heater or boiler on its way out.
Ernie is amazing, the plumbers are clean, courteous and on time.. Pricing is fair!
Well, I have to say these guys did such an impressive improvement on my plumbing situation. They took care of me in a pinch. Sal and Paul know their work and have ethics. They cleaned up my mess on an emergency and recommend some updates. No pressure. Went into a detailed description of my needs that I know I will need to adress. They are highly skilled and very good on communication and helpful with making the best decisions on my home. The owner knows my husband well and little did I know i had the owners brother that saved me from a clogged Main in the basement. Will be using them soon for my updated heating system as it's years old. They helped me in a pinch. Great service, excellent customer service and they do care about their clients.
We had some water leaking from our water heater. We called this morning and Ernie and his crew came out very quickly and assessed the problem. The water heater at 11 years old needed to be replaced as well as the valve. Everything is installed and ready to go. It was very quick and easy. The guys were awesome.
So....in 2025, my neighbor was replacing his hot water heater through extreme. They noticed mine was leaking and sent a photo. The next day i had a new boiler and hot water heater!! So when my shower was leaking into my basement, i called him again. I had had a health event and owed a lot of money for it and was not sure how I'd afford it. He came and gave the reasonable estimate to replace the rusted out pipes, shower/tub, and sink vanity. I went through home equity, which i was approved for, but took forever! The guys came they were awesome. Very professional. Felt safe leaving them in my home alone. They were careful keeping the cats in. They cleaned up when done and helped me take down light fixtures i was never able to do on my own. They had to level the floor and jerryrig certain things because my house is soooo old and unplumb!! I let Ernest pick the shower/ tub and vanity. It's beautiful! Thank you for the wonderful work. (My home is so old, the guys found old toys and 2 right shoes in the wall)
Replaced my heater and fixed my shower next day after contacting them. Responsive team, no frills or upsells.
