One 2021 reviewer says they had been going to Family Pool & Patio for 38 years, and a 2025 reviewer has been a customer since 1988. The company says it started in 1978 as a small local shop and is family-owned, building custom in-ground and above-ground pools and handling service, repair and renovation across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Its main address is in Lawrence, and its website also describes an above-ground pool store and service location at 3 Newton Junction Road in Kingston, NH, offering openings, closings, liner installs and above-ground pool sales. A May 2026 customer used both: the Kingston store for chemicals and water testing, and the Lawrence location's techs for a pool opening and a new pump installation. Several reviews credit the staff with knowing parts. In a 2025 review, a homeowner whose pump motor failed says three other pool stores had nothing, while the person at Family Pool named the right motor before it hit the counter and said the one suggested elsewhere was the wrong motor and would not have worked; when the outside seal leaked, a staff member installed the correct one on the impeller and pump housing. A July 2026 customer says Mike traced a circulation problem to a stray gasket stuck in one of the heads. On bigger jobs, a 2025 customer says their in-ground pool came in under budget and four weeks early. A 2024 reviewer describes Paul making multiple on-site visits during design, and in 2022 reviews customers credit Bob Whitney with keeping them posted through permits and Dave and Jonathan with making things right through some challenges and disappointments on an installation. Google shows 4.7 stars from 59 ratings and 4.4 from 89. There is one complaint about the work: a 2022 customer wrote that after the initial build there was an electrical fire, multiple broken pipes and poor planning around the structure, and that they would not use the company again. A 2023 customer first complained about calling seven times and getting only voicemail about a leak, then updated the review after a diver came the same day, found two holes in the liner and a broken main-drain plug.
We had a problem with the circulation in the pool. It turned out one of the heads had a stray gasket stuck in it, preventing the system from cycling the way it needs to. Mike from Family Pools did a thorough analysis of the entire system to determine the root cause of the issue and quickly get our pool back to 100%. He even cleaned the pool while he watched the pool cycle. Top notch service technician.

Friendly & knowledgeable staff! Excellent prices on equipment parts. Special shout out to Ryan for helping me find the filter parts I needed and carrying my purchases to my vehicle, such a nice young man! We worked with Dave about 13 years ago for our above ground pool install- glad to see he's still leading the team at North. This store is our go to in May for Pristine Blue supplies- you won't find a nicer crew. Thanks again everyone!
These guys in Kingston are awesome! I'm a new in-ground pool owner in Kingston and while this location is exclusively an above-ground pool specialist, many of their services like water testing, chemicals, equipment, etc are still in their wheelhouse. Ryan helped us with cleaning equipment and getting stocked up with general chemicals... super nice guy and very informative. Kelly handled our chemical testing and did a great job of explaining exactly what we need to do to balance out the pool's chemicals now that its opened. Then Jim is an in-ground pool owner himself so he's been excellent for answering questions that are in-ground specific. I trust these guys fully and so far all of their help has been right on point. Again, if you need in-ground technical service make sure you reach out to their Lawrence location and I can say they have been fantastic as well! The Lawrence team service techs of Sean (spelling?) & RJ for my opening and then Mike C for our new pump installation were happy to guide me and inform me on my pool's equipment and strategy. Thank you all! We feel very lucky to have you so close by! We used your Hampstead competitor down the road when we first moved in last year, and their techs were good when we could get them, but we felt like a number when it came to calling them and getting a human to talk to was very difficult. Use Family Pools!!!
