Two things come up again and again in what people wrote about Floor Sanding of Mass: the stain matched, and the dust stayed put. A 2013 customer said the new stain matched the old floors perfectly; another that year described the crew sealing off the untouched parts of the house so sawdust could not travel; in 2017 a homeowner was given samples laid on the actual floor to compare, iteration after iteration, until one colour worked across oak, maple and pine. Anh Nguyen runs it, and reviewers keep calling him by name. Angi and HomeAdvisor each publish 4.8 from 38 ratings, and a striking share of the writers were repeat customers — one in 2016 was on their third job with him, and a 2011 customer used him for two separate condominiums after phoning four or five of his past clients first. In 2016 a subcontracted job on a 100-year-old house, where the floor dropped an inch over a six-foot span, drew a careful account of shimming and tight boards, plus a note that Anh came back himself to touch up polyurethane blemishes. The catch is reaching him. A 2011 reviewer who had been happy three times could not get a call back on the fourth and wondered whether the business had closed; another that year said the only problem was finding availability. And a 2008 account is the genuinely bad one: sheetrock paper torn where a baseboard was pulled, a pocket door knocked askew, a cracked marble threshold, and dust the writer called thick and everywhere — partly offset by an $80 discount, and by their saying they would hire him again anyway. Everything written about this shop runs 2008 to 2017, so the picture is an old one; the crew, the pricing and the availability may all have moved since. Ask what the current lead time is, confirm who will actually be running the sander, and ask for a recent job you can go and look at before you commit.
“Anh Nguyen came over to sand our kitchen”
The house was a bit of a challenges because there were multiple woods (oak, maple, and pine). Getting a stain to match across all these woods wasn't easy. We were also between a few colors, so it was hard to decide. Anh was very accommodating and gave us samples from the workshop as a starting point. We got a shortlist from that, which he then put as samples on the floor so we could really see what it would look like. We made lots of iterations which he was happy to do. The crew finished the work in less than a week. They were prompt and available when promised. Every day they cleaned up their work. In short, we're very happy with the results. Anh was also one of the more reasonable quotes from the list of 4 that we received (his quote was clear/concise and prompt). He was also a referral from a friend, so that made our choice even easier.
The house was unoccupied at the time of the work. They strengthened the sub floor which eliminated the creaking that I had noticed when we were buying the house. They were very tidy. The finished work was perfect. I will hire them again.
Anh's crew was working as a subcontractor on our kitchen remodeling project, so we did not negotiate price or schedule with him directly. They did start one day later than scheduled, but the delay had minimal impact. Once on site, they got right to work. Our house is over 100 years old, with floors that have some pretty impressive slopes; in one place, the floor drops over an inch within a 6 foot span. They did some shimming to mitigate this a bit. They laid the new oak flooring and did a very good job; even with the wavy subfloor, the boards are very tight. They took four days to install, sand and finish/refinish floors in four rooms. They sanded between coats of urethane. At the end of the job, the floors looked beautiful. Upon close inspection, we did discover a few small blemishes, places where the polyurethane bubbles did not burst. Anh himself came over to the house and did the touch up, as well as patching some gaps where the new baseboards did not cover as much as the old baseboards did. This did take some weeks to schedule, he is very busy. Anh is a very friendly, cordial guy. He told us how to care for our new floors and explained everything he did. We are very pleased with his work.
Wonderful! Anh saved us! They fortunately had a small window of time exactly when I called and were able to fit us in. We were in need of someone immediately and so they really saved us! There is nothing easy about the work these guys do. This is extremely labor-some work. So, for that, along with the results they provide, in the timeframe they provide it, they are more than reasonably priced. They sanded, stained, sealed, and polyurethaned our existing hardwood floors in our entire house which consists of about 1600 square feet ( 3 bedrooms with closets, living room, family room, large kitchen, hallways, plus two staircases in five days. Our floors are BEAUTIFUL! We are so pleased. We love them! And we are so happy we hired Anh from Floor Sanding of Mass. Thank you Anh and thank you to your crew!
Second time we used them and the job couldn't have gone better. Were in and out in 4 days, the job was spectacular, the price was $1,500 less than pre-finished flooring from a national flooring chain and Ahn's workers were fast, polite and finished ahead of schedule. Wonderful company, wonderful workers.
