The Groutsmith is Ruben's owner-operated franchise location covering East Boston and the surrounding Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex county towns, doing only tile and grout work — restoration, repair, re-bonding, shower regrouting, anti-slip treatment and color-matched caulking, not new tile installation. The Groutsmith brand itself dates to 1992, and the owner's own account describes moving to Boston from the Netherlands in 2010, working in finance, then moving into the trades before buying into the franchise; the company lists Groutsmith-certified grout and tile technicians. The review record here is unusually deep and unusually consistent: 71 reviews from 2024 through 2026, every one on file rating five stars, with 10 in just the last six months alone. Reviewers name Ruben directly (spelled variously as Reuben, Ruben or Rubin) in almost every account, and the same details repeat across dozens of reviews spanning different homes: he responds quickly to inquiries, often scheduling within a week, shows up on time, and explains what work is and isn't needed rather than upselling — leaving grout and tile looking, as one 2025 review put it, like brand new floors even where the original grout was 25-plus years old. Specific jobs described include cleaning and resealing tile that had 20 years of buildup, regrouting a 30-year-old marble shower, and repairing cracked grout left behind by a builder's original installation. A 2025 review specifically credited him with returning to fix a few small touch-up spots noticed after the first pass, without being asked twice, and an August 2025 review describes him being called back after a newly installed shower's floor grout cracked in multiple places shortly after installation. The record is backed up elsewhere too — Angi and HomeAdvisor both show 4.9-star ratings, each from a handful of reviews. There's no negative feedback anywhere in what's available across any of the platforms checked. For grout and tile restoration, regrouting, or fixing problems left by a previous installer around Boston, this is about as consistent and deeply reviewed a specialist as they come — the main thing to keep in mind is that the company does grout and tile refinishing work specifically, not new tile installation, so confirm scope matches before booking.

My contacts with Reuben were via phone. We discussed the project, sent him pictures and confirmed a price. The tile cleaning and grout cleaning were completed in a timely manner. The quality of the work exceeded my expectation and the outcome is excellent.
Ruben did a really great job, and was extremely communicative. I felt great finally finding someone who could be trusted! Many months later, his job is holding up fantastically, saving my grout and surrounding walls. Highly recommend!
Rubin was very professional and pleasant to work with.
Ruben and Groutsmith brought our bathroom and kitchen back to "like new" condition. Our bathroom absolutely sparkle and he improved upon some past workmanship issues from the builder. He came out quickly and provided a simple easy to understand estimate and then came back on our schedule and got the job done without issue. I would not hesitate to recommend Groutsmith.
We had our bathroom tile professionally cleaned and resealed to restore its appearance. The team removed buildup in grout lines and applied a protective sealant. The job took about half a day. Compared to before, the floor looks brighter and feels much cleaner. It also seems better protected from moisture going forward.
