Sixty-seven Google ratings, and every one of them is five stars. That is unusual at any volume, and it is the first thing worth knowing about The Groutsmith of East Boston — a one-trade operation run by an owner named Ruben who does grout and tile work and nothing else. He bought into the Groutsmith franchise after moving to Boston from the Netherlands in 2010 and leaving a finance job for the trades, according to his own account on the company site. The work list is narrow on purpose: cleaning and resealing tile and grout, repairing cracked tile, re-bonding loose or hollow floor tile, regrouting showers, anti-slip treatment and color-matched caulking. The site lists coverage from Boston out through Chelsea, Somerville, Medford, Revere, Peabody, Lawrence and Andover, across Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex counties. The through-line in what customers write is restoration rather than replacement — people who assumed they would have to tear something out and found out they did not. A customer in July described sending photos by phone, agreeing a price, and getting the tile and grout cleaned on schedule with the result beating what they expected. Another in May wrote that their bathroom and kitchen came back to like-new condition, including fixing workmanship problems left by the builder. A May review describes the actual process plainly: buildup removed from the grout lines, a protective sealant applied, about half a day of work, a brighter floor at the end. Seventeen reviews landed in the last six months alone and none were negative. Across 2024 to 2026 the pattern holds through six different sources, and the recurring notes are the same ones each time — quick to respond, shows up when promised, works clean, prices people call fair. Angi and HomeAdvisor both carry 4.9 from six reviews, a much smaller sample than Google's. Two practical notes before calling. There is no emergency service, so this is scheduled work, not a same-night fix. Both Angi and HomeAdvisor state that free estimates and warranties are offered — worth confirming what the warranty actually covers on your specific job, since sealing and regrouting carry different expectations than a repair. If your tile is sound but the grout is stained, cracked or moldy, this is a straightforward call — a specialist who does one thing repeatedly rather than a general contractor fitting it in. If you need tile torn out and replaced, or a full bathroom rebuilt, that is a different trade and a different call.
