If you are buying in Newton or the towns west of it and want the findings explained on the spot rather than emailed the next day, he is a sensible call. Confirm he can meet your inspection deadline, and ask which of the add-on tests — radon, lead paint, water quality — your house actually needs and what each one adds to the price.
