Greater Boston Home Inspections is a one-person outfit run out of Auburndale by Jon Haywood, who says he trained as a home inspector and worked at another inspection company before starting his own. The BBB lists the business as a sole proprietorship operating continuously since January 1998, and it says it covers Newton, Chestnut Hill, Weston, Wellesley, Dover, Lexington, Sudbury, Needham, Natick, and Nantucket, offering home inspections plus radon, lead paint, water quality, and infrared testing for buyers, sellers, brokers, and lenders. Its BBB file carries the top A+ grade, though the company hasn't pursued formal BBB accreditation. Online, the visible track record is thin: Google shows 3.9 stars from just seven ratings, and only one written review has turned up across the directories checked, logged in 2025. That review leans strongly positive, but after nearly three decades in business, seven ratings and one review is not much of a public record to weigh either way. Jon Haywood is ASHI certified — the American Society of Home Inspectors' credential — which at least backs up the training behind a one-man shop. Worth confirming directly before booking: the BBB accreditation status (it's rated A+ but not accredited), and asking for references from recent jobs, since so little review history exists online to check against. This is a fit for someone in Newton or the surrounding towns who wants one experienced inspector handling the full package — structural walkthrough plus radon, lead, water, and infrared testing — from an operation that's been doing it since the late 1990s. Given how sparse the third-party record is, it's worth asking Haywood directly for recent references rather than leaning on the BBB grade alone.

Jon was very thorough and went over our report with us immediately at the end of the inspection, as well as answering our questions through the process. He was also very punctual with handing off a consolidated list of high priority items, which we very much appreciated during our inspection period. I was able to contact contractors he recommended, all of which replied very quickly.
