Ilias Bintas runs a South End electrical shop — IB Electric, doing business as IBE Boston — that also handles security cameras, smart-home wiring, and alarm systems. There's a long history here — more than 40 reviews since 2023 — split between years of highly specific, satisfied accounts and two serious complaints that surfaced this spring. The specific jobs read like a working electrician's résumé: rewiring a 110-year-old house up to code during what started as a simple outlet fix, running new power to a wall-mounted TV without opening a raceway or drilling through plaster, restoring power to a building during an off-hours outage in about 20 minutes. Several reviewers describe using him repeatedly over multiple years — for a security-camera system, then smoke detectors, then a panel upgrade — and one 2024 review says a solution he installed was "still working great 3 years later." Two reviews from spring 2026 describe a different experience on larger jobs: one reports paying $18,000 for work never finished, calling it a scam; the other, more detailed, describes an $18,600 panel-rewiring and fire-alarm project from January 2026 that was still incomplete by April, with fire alarms not installed, construction debris left behind, and weeks without a response to calls. A review from December 2025 described a single-panel replacement that started without a permit and dragged past six months, again citing poor communication. Boston permit records show three permits filed since 2025, with one still open. For a small job — a repair, a camera system, a stuck breaker — the history here runs deep and mostly positive. For a larger project involving a permit and multiple phases, it's worth asking directly about the current timeline and getting a firm schedule in writing before work starts.
“Ilias Bintas has filed 3 building permits in Boston since 2025. 1 permit remains open.”
Ilias was recommended by a neighbor and he responded right away with a visit and a quote. His pricing was reasonable, and his work ethic exemplary. With his professional and friendly manner, the job was done quickly… until I added more work and he was so flexible with that! I would highly recommend him for any job, big or small. His sidekick Andres was also wonderful, along with his plasterer/painter George. I will definitely use him again for any future jobs. Thank you Ilias!
I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO CONSIDER ANOTHER ELECTRICIAN! Ilias effectively scammed my family and charged us $18,000 to not finish his work. The price was also absurdly price gouged. Trust anyone but Ilias.
Elias was extremely professional, and knowledgeable. I’ve had the privilege of hiring him twice, one for a breaker, and installation of a security camera system. He communicated openly and explained everything. He was respectful, extremely helpful, and maintained a clean work site.
Hired Ilias Bintas / IBE Boston in January 2026 for a major electrical project — panel rewiring, breaker replacements, fire alarm installation, EV chargers, basement lights, and a permit/inspection. Paid $18,600 across multiple invoices. As of April 2026, the project remains unfinished. Three fire alarms still need to be installed, basement panel work appears incomplete, and there is still construction debris in my basement that was never cleaned up. No permit has been pulled and no inspection has been scheduled. Communication throughout has been extremely poor. Weeks of no responses to calls and texts, repeated promises to show up that never materialized, and no written schedule ever provided despite multiple requests. I previously left a one-star review and removed it because I felt bad and wanted to give him another chance. I regret that decision. My son believes he is a good person and not someone trying to steal money, and I hope that's true, but the reality is that months later the work is not done and I would not recommend hiring this electrician. I regret ever contracting IBE Boston for this project.
Work at new restaurant in Copley Square, including installation of new security cameras and fixing some issues with the existing system. Did what was necessary, worked early morning and after close. Adapted to changing scope of work. Easy to work with. Would recommend for your job.
