J & J Services is a small moving company based in Salem, New Hampshire, run by Jack. The company says it also serves Epping and Hampton Falls, NH, and Wells, Maine, and has been in business since 1981. Reviews describe both local moves and longer hauls, including trips as far as Naples, Florida, and Portland, Maine, along with full-house and business relocations. Most recently, in June 2026, a customer said the crew unloaded a full cross-country moving truck in under two hours, calling the price reasonable and the work careful and efficient. That mirrors a run of earlier five-star reviews going back to 2023: customers from a January 2024 review to a February 2025 one described Jack as professional and responsive, arriving on short notice, packing full kitchens with care, and finishing seamlessly even on a tight schedule — a November 2025 review specifically credited the crew with carefully handling fragile items on a move from New Hampshire to Florida. But there's a real cluster of trouble in the written history too, mostly between late 2024 and mid-2025. Two November 2024 reviews described the company refusing to show up at an agreed time, being rude when asked to follow the contract, and not returning a deposit in a timely way. A December 2024 review said the crew didn't bring the tools needed to move a heavy safe, borrowed tools from the building instead, and broke a freight elevator in the process, leaving the safe sitting in a hallway for weeks. A May 2025 review warned that the contract charges a rescheduling fee even with more than seven days' notice, and that the company said it was fully booked when asked to reschedule. Another May 2025 review described a confrontational encounter with someone identified as the business's owner at a public storage facility. And a June 2025 review said a deposit was kept after the customer had to cancel for a housing issue. There's been no repeat of these specific complaints in the months since, but the pattern is recent enough that anyone hiring, especially for anything beyond a straightforward move, should get the cancellation, rescheduling and deposit terms in writing before signing.
We used these guys to help unload our cross country moving truck into our new place, and they were excellent! Reasonably priced compared to other quotes we got, careful? efficient and quick with their work. They unloaded all of our items in less than 2 hours, and I was able to book the day before with no problems. Highly recommend Jack and his team :)
I recently used J&J to move my mother from New Hampshire to Naples, Florida. Everything went amazing. She had quite a bit of fragile items, they were all taken great care of. The movers got there early and did a great job! I would surely use them again.
RED FLAG. Unfortunately I’ve been dealing with a difficult housing situation, and had to cancel these movers for the day they were hired. They have my deposit. Which was a bizarre situation in itself- I paid that as soon as I signed the contract, then had to forward to Jack the email of the payment receipt because he somehow couldn’t see it was paid. When I emailed them to cancel for the specific day they were hired and told them I would reach out when it was sorted, Jack was very receptive in return email correspondence, and very understanding. This was acknowledged, by Jack, via email on 3/19: “ Jack, Hi there. I have to cancel for 5/2. My closing date is changing to sooner. I don't know when yet but I want to make sure I release the 5/2 date so you can be hired for that day.” Jack replies immediately: “Ok just let us know what date.” 3/30 “Hi there. I will have to cancel your services until I know next steps. There are issues with my buyers so I can’t close until we get that worked out. Thank you!” Jack replies 3/31: “ Ok Let us know your new date when you have it” I’ve just received an unnecessarily aggressive email regarding cancelation, and a bill for $100, which is the cancelation fee. To be clear, I have not canceled these movers entirely. This correspondence clearly leaves this open for reschedule. If they had reached out and said: “We haven’t heard from you, if you wish to cancel that will be a $100 charge, here is a copy of the contract with the cancellation fee details.” I would have replied: “So sorry about this- thanks for sending this over. I don’t have a resolution yet; I completely understand and will pay this now.” Very professional exchange. This is how professionals do business. And that’s not remotely close to what happened. Dodged a bullet with these movers. I can see why they need the money. Are they good movers? I couldn’t tell you. Are they rude and unprofessional? Yep. Jack had the audacity to suggest they lost money by not taking other clients … on the day they knew they were not moving me. I don’t know about anyone else who works there but Jack needs classes on professionalism, etiquette, manners, proper client services, business management, etc. Imagine not taking clients on a day you know you’re available, and blaming that on someone else. I’m sure that’s a lie but I’m not sure which scenario is worse: Lying, or admitting you ran your business like that. This is the best $100 I’ve ever spent. $350 total if you include the deposit. What a relief to know I will not be working with such an unprofessional organization. Reading the way they have responded to these reviews will be the red flag you should not ignore. Unfortunately Jack is such a poor businessman, he responded to my first review by verifying everything I’ve said, and posted personal information- which is a violation of Google’s terms of service. Google was kind enough to remove that, and give Jack a second chance to respond, without violating the terms of service: “Google's policies explicitly state that posting personal information of individuals without their consent in Google reviews is prohibited. This includes posting someone's full name, last name, face in a photograph or video, or other information without their permission.” Your move, Jack.
PUBLIC BEWARE:I had a direct interaction with the alleged "owner" of this business at public storage in danvers. My mother and I were unloading some equipment from her storage unit and in the midist of removing and replace some items, the hallway was slightly blocked on both sides. As we were in the midist of placing the items back into the unit the "owner" barked at us for "blocking the hallway " despite us clearly being very closed to finished. We nicely explained we would be done momentarily and he barked back that they were all "on the clock" (as if Noone else in the space is paying costs) I reiterated we would be out of his way shortly (in a less friendly tone than the first time) and he proceeded to call my 67 year old mother rude and condescending at that stage I flipped the guy off and quickly finished what we were doing. After we finished loading out (within 5 mins or so of him going off at us) I pointed out to him that other people are also on the clock and pay for space there. The "owner" then escalated the situation by challenging me to fight infront of cameras, my 67 year old mother, and a child that appeared to be there with his client. I promptly called the behavior trashy and laughed at him continuing to ask to fight. After he finally settled back into working for his client and stopped, we promptly left. Based upon many of the other evidenced reviews here: if this person was indeed the owner , I would caution anyone from engaging in business with someone who's immediate reaction to having their entitlement pointed out is to challenge the person to a fight , in broad daylight, in a public storage space, infront of old women and children. After I asked for his name , he would only reveal that he was the "owner" and he encouraged me to share my experience with him by calling the # on the side of the truck. Google is a more appropriate forum for the obvious public interest in a business owner whom conducts themselves in such a manner.
Used J&J for a move from NH to Boston. Jack was very professional and responded quickly to my emails. The move itself was seamless and all of my personal items were handled with care and properly packaged. Highly recommend!
