In a January 2017 review, a homeowner described watching Gabe Arsenault's crew work on the house next door — all the prep that went in before a brush ever touched the siding — and then calling him for their own interior. Prep is what these accounts keep circling back to: a December 2013 customer with a tall house, four colors and decorative trim singled out the prep work, and an August 2013 homeowner watched the crew spend whole days sanding, repairing and getting the house ready before any paint went on. J Gabe Arsenault runs a small painting crew out of Waltham. Angi lists interior and exterior painting, pressure washing and light carpentry, claims 39 years in the trade, and shows a 5.0 average across 30 reviews, all of them five-star. The painting tends to arrive with carpentry attached. The newest account, from June 2025, covers an exterior and trim repaint plus a good deal of repair work on a back deck. The older ones describe the same habit: an October 2013 customer found that rotten railing posts had been replaced and the inside of a medicine cabinet fixed without being asked; a September 2013 reviewer had woodwork repaired and windows too high to reach washed alongside the paint; a June 2018 homeowner had gutters and downspouts sanded and painted. Schedule and cleanup come up almost as often. A February 2024 customer described a fast, quiet crew that cleaned up so completely it was like they were never there. An April 2024 homeowner having a bedroom ceiling, a high stairway ceiling and walls painted said the response was quick and the crew arrived on time, and a February 2017 job ran six consecutive days from the scheduled start. An August 2017 customer was moved up the schedule and had the crew out within a couple of days of calling. Most of these written accounts are old — they cluster between 2012 and 2018, with the newest three from 2024 and 2025 — so treat the detail in them as history. One other thing worth settling at quoting time: a September 2012 customer's job cost more than the estimate because they asked for two sets of shutters, which Gabe ordered and rehung once painted. For an exterior repaint where the wood needs attention first — rotten trim, a deck wanting repairs, gutters that should be sanded before they are coated — this is a painter who has been doing exactly that around Waltham for years. Get the estimate in writing, and have any additions priced before they are ordered.
I can’t recommend Gabe Arsenault and team highly enough! He painted my home exterior and trim, and did quite a lot of carpentry repairs on my back deck. The workmanship is unbeatable; he really knows what he is talking about. Gabe is straightforward and honest and also really charismatic and fun to talk to and have around during the job. Great guy! Gabe takes so much pride in the skill and expertise of his team; he uses quality materials, doesn’t cut corners, and keeps the price fair. Even my Dad who knit-picks everything said his work was perfect! On top of that, I swear there was not one drop of paint or mess left anywhere. Amazing clean up. We have already arranged to have him back in the fall for some additional work. If you are looking for paint and carpentry work, you have found your man!
I am grateful that I received a referral for Gabe's painting services. I needed to have my upstairs bedroom ceiling, a high stairway ceiling, and walls painted. Gabe's response time was quick, and he and his crew arrived on time. They were all very professional throughout the entire process. The price was affordable and fair, and to my surprise, they even painted the trim along the windows, floor and doors without charging me extra. Gabe ensured that the work was done professionally, and I am very pleased with the results. I will definitely be working with him again in the future.
Gabe and his crew were extremely professional and very fast. The work they did was exceptional, the crew was quiet and very good. This was a great experience; Gabe and his crew were thoroughly professional, and took great care and pride in their work. Their estimate was in the middle of several that we received, but no one could have done more. They sanded and painted our gutters and downspouts, which no other contractor offered. The work went quickly with a crew of four, and they were extremely careful with our plantings and cleaned up every day before they left. Gabe constantly checked with us to make sure we were happy, which we were. They used the highest quality materials and cut no corners, even though we negotiated on price. The house looks great now -- better than any previous paint job.
