Jarvis HVAC is a one-man heating and cooling business working out of Mattapan across Greater Boston and the South Shore, from Brockton and Quincy out to Wellesley and Bridgewater. Thumbtack records 64 hires, five years in business, a single employee and a background check on Robin Jarvis, and lists him as a Top Pro for 2023. He describes himself there as a MassSave qualified Heat Pump Installer and a certified HVAC & R technician who has installed mini splits, split systems, heat pumps, steam and forced hot water boilers, tankless and combi boilers and new ductwork; his own site says its technicians are EPA-certified. Those are his own statements rather than verified credentials. What customers praise most is diagnosis. In a 2024 review a homeowner said another certified contractor had quoted to replace an induction motor when the real problem was a clogged acid neutralizer, and that Jarvis found it, showed them the actual part and fixed the root cause. A 2024 customer with a failed compressor said he identified what had caused the failure and then quoted a fixed cost for the whole job. In February 2026 a property manager described a loose switch in a client's condo heating system secured and the fixtures extended so the system was stable. Response in bad weather comes up too: a draft inducer fan sourced and fitted on a cold Saturday in March 2026, and a January 2026 rooftop repair completed the same day in what the customer called brutally cold conditions. Money is where the record splits, and it splits hard. In January 2026 a customer whose tankless water heater was under warranty wrote that he was charged $3,200 in labour, said a neighbour with the same fault paid $250 for a heat exchanger, and ended "I feel robbed by Jarvis". A year earlier another customer wrote that two units installed by him stopped working within a year and that he refused to fix them without charging a fee. The customer whose rooftop repair went well still noted the cost was higher than expected. Against that, a 2023 customer called his rates very reasonable and a 2024 customer valued getting a fixed cost up front. The two platforms disagree sharply. Google averages 4.4 across 14 ratings and contains both of the one-star accounts; Thumbtack shows 5.0 across 30 with every review at five stars. Thumbtack only collects reviews from jobs booked through it, so the Google side is where the harder history sits. He is worth calling for a diagnosis, especially on a system another contractor has already misread. Before any install or warranty work, get the labour figure in writing, and ask explicitly what the callback policy is if the equipment fails inside a year.
Jarvis was able to source a draft inducer fan for my furnace and install it on a cold Saturday. He was professional and communication was great. Will be working with him again in the future for our HVAC needs.
I recently had Jarvis HVAC come out for a repair and there were issues with our clients condo heating system with a loose switch that was affecting its performance. Jarvis took the time to secure and attach the switch, ensuring it was safely and correctly installed. He also extended the fixtures to make sure everything was stable and functioning as it should. It was clear he paid attention to detail and didn’t cut any corners. He was professional, efficient, and explained the work in a way that was easy to understand. I highly recommend because they are knowledgeable, thorough, and committed to doing the job right.
Was prompt, took time to diagnose, work with HVAC company customer support. Got the spares needed and completed the repair in brutally cold conditions on the roof of building. Higher than expected cost but I appreciate the response time and willingness to complete repair same day.
My tankless water heater broke around 10 days back and I got Jarvis’s contact through a friend. He came and after talking to the company, made me feel that he got me a free machine replaced, though it’s under warranty. Later the unit was replaced by him. He charged me $3200 in labor. You will not believe that there are others in my community having similar problem with water heater and one of my neighbor was telling me that he had to pay $250 to change the heat exchanger, which was the same issue with my machine. I feel robbed by Jarvis. I will not refer him to anyone, not because of his ability, rather his taking advantage of the situation and charging me outrageous amount of $3200, which I feel now should not be more than a $500. Based on the response from Jarvis, I want to clarify that though he had to move a small freezer and an office chair, doesn’t qualifies for such a high charge. Also, delivery of old equipment and picking the new one from the supplier was never mentioned to the extra charge. Further, want to set the facts facts here that I was never given an estimate of the work, let alone the amount. If I have to amount for the total amount took to finish this job would be max 6-7 hrs over 2 days for one to one replacement of the heater.
Jarvis did a fantastic job fixing our A/C and HVAC system. He was responsive, communicative, and even came by on a last-minute call. He arrived promptly and got everything up and running quickly. Most importantly, he was honest throughout the process, which we really valued. Great service all around—highly recommend!
