JF Drywall & Plastering is a Newton, Massachusetts outfit built around one trade: hanging, repairing and finishing drywall, plus plaster work, for homes and commercial jobs alike. The company, led by Jonathan Ferreira as CEO, says on its own site that it covers Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. The reviews that pile up across Google and Thumbtack from late 2024 into mid-2025 tell a consistent story: fast response, careful floor protection during teardown, and a finished wall that looks new. One homeowner in a March 2025 review said the crew showed up within two hours of a message and had the job done in five; another that spring called the finished room 'like new.' A Thumbtack customer that November praised the crew's willingness to redo a section without pushback. The one thing worth asking about before booking: a July 2026 Google review from a general contractor describes hiring the company's drywall and mudding work through a man named Pedro, who represented himself as a partner but turned out to be acting as an unaffiliated middleman collecting payment. It's the kind of arrangement worth clarifying up front — confirm you're contracting directly with JF Drywall & Plastering itself, not through a third party. A Procore Construction Network listing separately shows the company as a claimed, mid-sized outfit — 10 to 50 employees and typical contracts in the six-figure range — spanning five New England states, though that listing carries no customer ratings of its own. Tenure is a small point of disagreement: the company's website says 10 years in business, while its Thumbtack profile puts it at 16. For a straightforward drywall or plastering job — new construction, a repair, or a texture finish — the pattern across most reviews is quick turnaround and clean work. Given the middleman account, it's worth confirming directly with the company who you're actually contracting with before any money changes hands.
Avoid this company at all costs. I am a general contractor and hired them for drywall installation and mudding through a man named Pedro, who represented himself as a partner of JF Plastering. Later, it became clear that he was simply acting as a middleman—happy to collect payment, but unwilling to take responsibility for the work. The workmanship was unacceptable. Several walls were noticeably out of plumb. They buried multiple electrical boxes and wires under drywall, forcing my electrician to spend additional time locating and exposing them. They also wasted an excessive amount of materials. We supplied all the mud, and I repeatedly found half-full buckets left uncovered overnight, completely unusable the next day. Despite this waste, they continually demanded more materials. The most serious issue was that they damaged the electrical wiring feeding a subpanel. The circuit was functioning properly before the drywall crew arrived. After they completed their work, the subpanel repeatedly tripped. My electrician had to cut multiple inspection holes to diagnose the problem, and ultimately found a drywall screw driven directly through the electrical wire. I contacted Pedro for over a week, simply asking him to repair the drywall after the electrical repair. I did not even ask him to reimburse the electrician’s additional labor caused by their mistake. Instead of taking responsibility, he refused to make the repair unless I paid him again. He then gave me Jonathan’s phone number—the same person Pedro had previously claimed was his partner. Jonathan never appeared on the job once, and neither of them accepted responsibility for the damage. From start to finish, the communication was poor, there was no accountability, and there was absolutely no warranty or support after the work was completed. Once they were paid, they disappeared. I am documenting everything, filing complaints with the appropriate government agencies, and consulting with an attorney regarding the damages. I fully intend to pursue this matter in Small Claims Court. If you value quality workmanship, honesty, and accountability, I strongly recommend hiring someone else.
