John A. Buttaro, Inc. is a Woburn design-build shop that takes on additions, kitchen and bath remodeling, and exterior work like siding and windows — the company describes itself as a full-service home design, renovation and remodeling firm run by its owner, John Buttaro. Its own site says John has worked as a carpenter for more than 38 years, the last 26 of them self-employed as a builder, framing contractor and finish carpenter, an unusual path that started with an accounting degree and five years teaching a high school vocational program before he went into building full time. It states a service area covering Woburn, Winchester, Lexington, Acton, Stoneham, Wakefield, Billerica, Burlington and Concord. In a December 2025 Google review, a homeowner described the crew replacing their siding with Hardie Plank along with all their windows and doors, and going out of their way to make existing window treatments fit — calling John responsive and the work top notch. A September 2025 review covers a home addition, calling the subcontractor team fantastic and the quote pretty accurate, with the job finished quickly despite a few issues traced back to the initial architectural plans. Two 2017 Houzz reviews describe a kitchen and upstairs bathroom remodel and repeat work across several projects, both five stars — dated accounts, but consistent with the kind of remodeling work the company still lists today. Its BBB page, an A+ accredited listing, describes customers as satisfied with project management and courtesy on-site, though it shows no individual reviews of its own. Not every account is glowing — a June 2023 Google review describes a scheduled appointment that was never kept, calling the no-show very irresponsible. Sources also don't agree on how long the company has been around: HomeAdvisor and Angi list 46 years, BBB says 52, and Houzz says 54 — all longer than the 38 years John's own site credits to his carpentry career. Licensing checks out — its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, and BuildZoom separately lists an active Construction Supervisor License and an active electrician license under the business. For an addition, a kitchen or bath remodel, or an exterior job like siding or windows, the written record backs the pitch; given the 2023 no-show account, it's worth confirming a firm start date before committing.
We had a great experience working with John and his crew. They replaced our siding with Hardie Plank, all our windows, and doors. They went out of their way to make our existing window treatments work with the windows. Their work was top notch plus John was responsive and easy to reach. We would definitely work with them again!
John and his crew are very professional. He has a great team of subs-contractors that are fantastic. We did a home addition with John and his team and his quote was pretty accurate and did a great job of getting the work done quickly. A few issues from our initial architectural drawings crept up along the way and John was able to come through with some great resolutions. We'd definitely work with John again in the future.
Made an appt never showed up. Very irresponsible
John Buttaro and his team redid our kitchen, upstairs bathroom, and more. We were thrilled with the results. Professional creative, thoughtful and responsive are good words to describe them. John has a knack for listening to what you want and making it happen. His team takes great pride in doing high quality work, we would work with them again in a heartbeat!
I have worked with John and his dedicated team many times over several projects and I am always amazed by their relentless pursuit of perfection. If you want a over the top contractor that won't leave you until you are satisfied with the job... look no further. No words can express the level of craftsmanship, budget minded and personalized service that you will have here with John.
