John's Painting & Carpentry, based in Lynn, is the kind of outfit people call when an exterior repaint turns up rot underneath — cracked trim at the eaves, rotted siding, a downspout that's seen better days. The reviews describe John and a small crew (his brother Michael among them) handling the carpentry fixes and the paint job as one project rather than farming out the wood repair. All six of the company's Google reviews, dated from mid-2025 through mid-2026, are five stars, and several describe the same full-house job: power-wash, scrape, replace rotted wood with PVC or composite trim, then sand and prime before two finish coats. One homeowner with a 130-year-old house says they hired John after watching him work at two different neighbors' houses first. Pricing comes up as fair more than once — one reviewer called it only slightly above a competing quote, worth it for how organized and thorough the estimate process was. The public review history here is still small, and nothing in what's available speaks to licensing, insurance, or BBB standing one way or the other — worth confirming directly before signing anything, as with any smaller crew that runs mostly on word of mouth. For a repaint that also needs some rotted trim, siding, or gutters fixed rather than just painted over, the reviews point to a crew that treats the prep work as the job, not an afterthought.

We hired John's Painting & Carpentry for a multitude of work on our house in the spring of 2026. John and his crew completed work to replace existing wood trim with PVC trim at rakes, eaves, and soffits. His crew also scraped, pressure washed and painted our house (primer plus two finish coats). Following roof replacement by another contractor, John and his crew returned to replace gutters and downspouts on the house. All of the work turned out great! We have been receiving many compliments on all of the projects. John's Painting and Carpentry was great to work with and the workers are very hard working and courteous.
My husband and I have always done all our own painting. We're at a point in our life that we needed some help. We did some work inside and employed other painters that really disappointed us. Now we needed the exterior of the house painted so we really looked around. From the get-go, I was impressed with John. He seemed to really know what the house needed and how he was going to go about completing the job. He was well organized, everything was in writing. His price was very reasonable, just slightly higher than our last estimate but he had made such an impression, that we had to hire him. What hard workers! He often came with a crew of 3, usually working 12 hour days!! They were so neat and clean, all so polite and respectful. John sat with me and reviewed my paint choices, with really great advice. He said he would have the job completed by May 25th and today is May 25th and the job is done! It took just over a week!!! And no complaints during that week. They came and worked hard, long hours and went home. And WOW. WOW. We are so so happy with how well it came out. We love our "new" home!!! You will not be disappointed if you hire this company. I am going to employ them again to help me with more work. What a relief to find a company that is honest, hard working and does amazing work. I obviously highly recommend them!! 10 STARS!!!
Awesome job! The guys were fastidious in their prep work making sure that there would be no damage to non-paintable surfaces. Everything was sanded and primed with two finish coats. Additional clapboard replacement and carpentry was done with care. We couldn't be happier and highly recommend John's Painting!
John and his crew are amazing. I saw his work when a neighbor had them working on his house, which was impressive. Then another neighbor hired him and, again, the results were great. So, I hired him. I have a 130-year-old house that needed some extra work. Power washed the entire house, scraped, replaced rotted wood, sanded, and primed. Then 2 coats of paint, all for a reasonable price. No one primes anymore or puts on 2 coats of paint. They were considerate of my property, professional, very friendly and did an amazing job. I highly recommend them.
John’s crew replaced rotted exterior trim with composite trim. They were timely, professional, neat, respectful, polite and very well communicated. The price was fair and craftsmanship quality. No surprises, no added expenses, no mess left behind. John and his brother Michael are hard working professionals. I highly recommend their services. It was an excellent experience.
