Four generations, one family, and a start date of 1921 — that is the claim Larkin Moving & Storage leads with, and its BBB file lists the same April 1921 start under the corporate name James E. Larkin, Inc. The company works out of Hyde Park in Boston with about a dozen employees, handling residential and commercial moves alongside the storage half of the business: household goods, pallets, warehousing, boat storage and commercial parking. What its 33 Google reviewers keep describing is care rather than speed. A homeowner writing in June 2024 said the price was fair, the crew put every box where it was asked to go, and nothing got broken. Another, in January 2024, described a move that finished ahead of schedule with movers who flagged things the customer had not thought about. One January 2024 customer moved between houses through a major storm and said everything still arrived on time. Repeat business turns up often — a reviewer that same month said they had used Larkin personally and professionally for more than 30 years — and the most recent comment, from August 2026, is a short note about a crew that showed up on time. Two things are worth raising before booking. The written history is lopsided: most of it landed in a burst in early 2024, and only one review has been posted in the past six months, so there is less current word-of-mouth than the total suggests. And there is one serious complaint. In November 2024 a customer left two stars and alleged that movers took an iPhone and a bottle of cologne from a plastic bin in the master bedroom, that the owner did nothing to make it right once told, and that the crew left scratches and dents on walls and furniture. That account stands alone against a long run of positive ones, but it is specific, and it concerns the two things that matter most in a move: your property, and how a company answers when something goes wrong. Larkin's BBB grade is an A+, with no complaints or government actions published on its profile, though the company is not BBB accredited. Its stated service area is broad — Boston and other Massachusetts cities, but also New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Jersey — so anything beyond a local move is worth confirming directly. For a straightforward household or office move by a long-established local crew, they are a reasonable call. Ask up front how they handle claims for damage or missing items, and get that answer before moving day.
Larkin is a great team. They were on time and professional. I highly recommend this great business.
I've worked with the Larkin team twice for moving and storing furniture. They have always been careful, patient, and friendly.
I always recommend Larkin Movers. A nice local family business. 10/10 experience.
Would not ever recommend. The biggest issue was that some of their guys stole from me. Took an iPhone and and the nicest cologne I had from a clear plastic bin from the master bedroom that had clearly been rifled through. I told the owner about it but he really did nothing to make it right. Beyond that these guys left scratches and dents all over my walls and furniture. Giving two stars instead of one because it could always be worse, right?
Excellent service! Highly recommend!
