Thirty-one permitted projects sit on Leighton Construction's building record, and two of them are Belmont additions valued at $378,000 and $500,000. That is the shape of this company: structural work — additions, dormers, second floors, whole-house gut jobs — rather than cosmetic refreshes. Wesley Leighton started it in 1993, and BBB's file puts the LLC at 33 years with three employees and Leighton himself as the owner. Its Houzz profile quotes a working range of $2,500 to $1.2 million, which fits a shop that will do a half-day window swap and a six-figure addition in the same season. The reviews are unusually consistent on one thing: the schedule holds. A homeowner writing in January 2023 said a major addition finished on time at six months when other bidders had quoted nine to fourteen. In 2024, one client described Wes at the house almost every day and a project-management app that handled finish selections, installment payments and progress questions; another that year said the crew gave a detailed cost breakdown and stayed open to discussion when parts of the job ran over. The work described is not small — a 2020 reviewer had load-bearing walls and a stairway removed in a house over a century old, and a 2022 reviewer bought a new-construction home the company built. The rating is 5.0 across 18 Houzz ratings, and the newest of them, from October 2025, is a half-day window replacement the owner said was tested by several days of rain with no leaks. Two of the reviews come from trade partners — a local kitchen designer and an architecture firm — rather than homeowners, which is worth knowing when you read them. One flag sits on the BBB page, and it is not about the work: a company posted that the owner listed its address as his business's mailing address without authorization and asked him to fix it. Related or not, the profiles do not agree on where the company sits — BBB has it at 19 Drew Rd in Belmont, Houzz lists Waltham. Ask where the office actually is. On licensing, BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts construction supervisor licence and a home improvement contractor registration as active, with an older registration recorded as inactive; those are BuildZoom's records rather than a verification, so confirm them yourself before signing. This is the outfit for a permitted, multi-trade project — an addition, a dormer, a floor-plan change — where schedule and subcontractor coordination decide the outcome. Confirm the current registration numbers and the business address, and ask to see the permit history for a job like yours.
Pre-job communication was terrific (timely, clear, accurate, and all done via email which was very important for me). The job itself (window replacement) was small (half a day), but was still completed well and was immediately tested with several days of rain and I had no issues. Would highly recommend.
Wes has been remodeling our house from baseline to attic in 2024, and his team has been highly professional throughout the process. They provided a reasonable quote along with a detailed breakdown of costs, and they were open to discussions when certain aspects went over budget. You can trust him to handle the job, and we were able to leave everything in his hands with confidence. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable contractor who delivers with professionalism and great attention to detail.
We hired Leighton Construction to build our second floor addition— which included a primary suite, along with a laundry room and office. We are so happy with the end result and highly recommend working with Wes and the team for any project big or small. The project was finished ahead of schedule and communication was excellent throughout the process. They use an app for project management which makes it easy to select finishes, pay installments, track progress, or just ask questions. During the build, Wes was at the house literally almost every day checking in on progress and making sure things were running smoothly. He always took the time to answer any questions we had, and let us know what to expect in the coming week. Leighton construction are trustworthy pros who treat your house like it’s their own and do excellent work.
My wife and I have had the pleasure of working with Leighton Construction on two separate home improvement projects. The first when our home’s windows reached the end of their useful life. Wesley and his team estimated the cost of replacement for all the windows, and installing a sliding glass door. The work was completed on time and within the agreed budget, and we have been extremely satisfied with the results. Several years later we realized that our kitchen and bathroom needed remodeling, and we weren’t sure how to go about it. This would be a complicated and big project, as it required engaging with many different skilled workers (e.g. kitchen design, procurement, demolition, flooring, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting). Moreover, finding and scheduling such workers would alone be a daunting task. So we contacted Wesley with a list of desired renovations, and his team produced an estimate for this desired work, and a timeframe when work could begin. Leighton Construction then handled all the project complexity. In the end our outdated kitchen was transformed into an elegant, functional, and modern space that exceeded our expectations. Here are some key points that stood out during our collaboration: Engaging with project specialists: Wesley has a list of skilled sub-contractors he regularly works with on projects. Wesley knows that their work is of high quality, and his ongoing relationship with them means they are responsive to him. Clear Communication: Throughout the project, Wesley and Tim used the website Basecamp to manage documents (e.g. initial contract, change orders, purchasing decision, and messaging). This created an ongoing record of decisions we could refer back to when needed. Respectful and Professional: Wesley and his team were courteous and professional. Working with them was enjoyable and low stress. Value for Money: The flooring, cabinets, and vanity are high quality, and an excellent value. They are far better than those available at the chain stores. In conclusion, we wholeheartedly recommend Leighton Construction for anyone looking to remodel their home.
