In a December 2025 review a homeowner described Joey and his subcontractor team gutting that ranch from the floor up and replacing the insulation, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. Another, writing in November 2025, found the company after a fire destroyed their home and said Joe Levis handled the insurance company as well as the build.
The North Andover firm says it has been family owned and operated since 1979 — 47 years by its own count — doing building, remodeling and restoration work across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active, held in the name of Joseph G Levis Jr. Building permit records on BuildZoom show 23 permitted projects, and the company keeps a Houzz page with five project galleries and a listing in the Merrimack Valley Chamber's directory.
The written history is short and uniform: 4.8 stars across 19 Google ratings, with all 14 reviews on file at five stars, running 2024 through 2026. The same names keep surfacing — Joe Sr., Joe Jr. and Marianne — which reads like a small family shop rather than a rotating crew. An August 2024 reviewer said the company built their house in 2020 at the height of the pandemic and finished on time. Another, that same month, said Levis stepped in after their original contractor abandoned the project before ever starting. A January 2025 remodel covering a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and entry porch also meant fixing several problems left behind by earlier contractors. The most recent write-up, from June 2026, is a transformed kitchen plus an upstairs bathroom made over.
Two things to weigh before calling. Nearly all of that praise sits on one platform — the Houzz and BuildZoom profiles each note zero customer reviews — so there is no second platform to cross-check it against. And this is not a small-jobs outfit: Houzz puts its typical job at $25,000 to $2 million, which matches what reviewers actually describe — whole-house rebuilds, additions, new construction, attic conversions.
BuildZoom also lists a construction supervisor licence and an electrician licence for Joseph G Levis, along with several older municipal registrations in Newton it marks expired as of December 2022 or, in one case, at one point cancelled. Those are the directory's records rather than the state's, and worth asking about directly if your project sits in a city with its own permitting.
For a gut renovation, an insurance rebuild or a new house in the Merrimack Valley, this is a shop whose clients describe exactly that work and at least one who came back for a second project. For a single-room refresh, ask first whether it fits their book. Then confirm the registration number on your contract against the state registry and get the schedule in writing.

I couldn't be happier with the work from Levis Companies! My kitchen has been transformed and I am thoroughly enjoying it. My upstairs bathroom also got a make over and that has been a joy as well!
