MacCo Energy is the service and emergency-maintenance arm of MacCormack Plumbing (also known as MacCo Mechanical), a Billerica commercial mechanical contractor the company says has been in business 40 years. The parent firm handles plumbing, HVAC, gas fitting, sheet metal and process piping across residential, commercial and industrial jobs, and formed MacCo Energy specifically to run 24/7 emergency calls and preventative-maintenance contracts once a project is complete. On Google, MacCo Energy sits at 2.8 stars from 18 ratings, and the written reviews on hand explain why the score is mixed rather than lopsided. In 2022, one customer described a fast, clean replacement of a 20-year-old heating system before winter hit, with the crew clearing out a lot of excess ductwork left by the old system; another that same year praised a timely quote and a hot-water-system installation that arrived exactly as scheduled, with the crew explaining the process on-site. Set against that, a separate 2022 review described years of an unresolved growling noise from a system MacCo installed, which eventually needed more than $3,000 of repair work from a different company, plus four visits to diagnose and fix an unrelated uneven-heating problem in the same house. A 2021 trade-press article, separately, described MacCo Energy handling HVAC service and replacement work at Concord Academy, a nearby prep school, for several years — a longer institutional relationship than any single review captures. One more flag worth knowing: in a 2025 review, a customer reported a MacCo driver speeding and tailgating through residential streets in Newton — a road-safety complaint, not a comment on the mechanical work itself, but worth asking about if a technician will be driving through your neighborhood. For a straightforward system swap or a school- or business-scale service contract, these reviews back that up; for anything where a prior install needs to hold up cleanly for years, it's worth asking pointed questions about warranty follow-through before signing.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from MacCo Energy. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.

Had a Macco Services driver (License # V22 928) pass me (approx 6:05AM) on a double yellow line, left turn only portion of the road, going at least 60mph in a 30mph zone in Newton. Continued to tailgate other drivers heading down Parker Street into Newton Center; total disregard for safety. For this reason alone, I would not use this company.
I appreciate MacCo on their great service they provided this past weekend. My 20 year old heating system needed to be replaced before the winter. The staff was able to set up an appointment quickly before the winter cold. The install was great. They were able to clean up a lot of the excess vents my previous system had, and make my system more efficient and better looking. From the staff in the office to the staff that installed, everything is what you would expect from a great contractor.
I used MacCo to replace our hot water system this summer and could not have been more PLEASED with the experience. I placed a call and received a proposal in a timely manner with links and specifics on the type of equipment they recommended. I moved forward with the order and received a scheduled date of installation. The evening prior to the work, I received an appointment confirmation and sure enough they arrived as promised the following morning. The crew performing the work explained the process to me and the amount of time they estimated being on-site. I was so impressed by the professionalism of the crew that I was not surprised that they finished earlier than anticipated. They cleaned up when finished and the system has worked flawlessly since the installation 2 months ago. I highly recommend MacCo and strongly urged my company to consider them for all of our commercial (and residential where applicable) projects in the future.
Stay away from this company at all costs. Very very unprofessional and rude, don’t bother wasting your money
For years, they brushed off our concerns about a growling or rumbling sound coming from our heating system … Now we have to shell out over 3K (to another company, of course) to fix problems with Macco’s original installation. Also, when parts of our house did not warm up, it took them four visits to diagnose and remedy the issue. We lost confidence in Macco.
