McAvoy Electric is a Plymouth, Massachusetts electrician run by Paul McAvoy, who reviewers describe as personally handling every job himself rather than dispatching a crew. His Google reviews span 2021 through 2025, and the volume and consistency of that record point to a small, word-of-mouth practice rather than a one-off good stretch. What customers who actually hired him keep coming back to is speed and follow-through: several describe getting a callback and a next-day or same-week appointment even for a small job like swapping a couple of outlets, and one review notes he took over a job the day after a different electrician left the customer waiting. Several reviews also describe a clear process before work even starts — a walkthrough, a written quote (sometimes with photos of the parts involved), and a stated date, time and cost up front — which more than one reviewer contrasts with electricians who never called back at all. He is also credited with untangling faults that weren't obvious, including tracing a home's AC outage to a loose connection on the back of a breaker, and resolving "several electrical issues... some of which were not straightforward." The work itself covers the everyday range a homeowner needs: breaker box and panel replacement, EV charger and Tesla wall-charger installs, generator transfer switches, recessed and dimmer lighting, ceiling fans, and rewiring that includes removing old knob-and-tube wiring. Multiple reviewers single out his pricing as reasonable or fair — one contrasts him directly with a previous "five-star" electrician who never returned a call — and several mention that he leaves the work area clean and hauls away old fixtures and materials rather than leaving them behind. The reviews on file don't get into pricing structure beyond "fair" and "reasonable," and none mention warranty terms, after-hours emergency availability, or a job at commercial or industrial scale, so anyone with a large, urgent, or non-residential project should confirm those details directly rather than assume them. There is no negative review, complaint, or platform disagreement anywhere in the record reviewed here. McAvoy Electric is a solid call for homeowners with the kind of job that makes up most of what's reviewed here — panel work, lighting, EV charging, and troubleshooting an intermittent or hard-to-find fault — especially anyone who values a single electrician who shows up when he says he will. Confirm current licensing and insurance, and ask directly about turnaround for anything urgent or larger in scope.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from McAvoy Electric. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
Standard receptacle swaps — a new dedicated circuit is a bigger job ($350–$750).
Flush mounts, pendants, chandeliers — hung on existing boxes.

We had a problem with the thermostat for an electric baseboard heater in our finished basement. We emailed Paul on a Thursday, and he scheduled us for the next day at noon. He arrived on schedule. He was polite and courteous. Paul did some work for us previously and was clean and efficient and reasonably priced. We will definitely use Paul again as our go-to electrician.
Paul has done work for us a few times. He's responsive, he shows up when he says he's going to, and he does a great job. I also don't feel like I'm being charged an unfair rate. To me, that checks all the boxes.
Paul is so nice and kind. He responded quickly to our request to have him check out our exhaust fan. He fixed our bathroom exhaust fan, and he explained what the issues were while he was working on it. He is so detailed, and after his work was completed he cleaned up the work area and showed me how our exhaust fan now works. We will definitely be utilizing his services again!
I thoroughly recommend Paul McAvoy for all your home electrical needs. He has been to our house a number of times now for minor and mid-size projects and fixes (replacing faulty light switches, re-installing ceiling fans, replacing dead under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, etc). He's a true professional - always responding quickly via email or text, working us into his schedule rapidly, giving me details on what parts to purchase prior to his arrival; and being courteous, efficient and gladly answering questions and describing what is being done whilst getting the job done. Very glad to have him in the south-Plymouth area!
Paul is the consummate professional - a true subject matter expert and a gentleman. He provided an accurate estimate and then completed the work to a tee. We highly recommend McAvoy Electric.
