McMahon Plumbing & Heating, based in Hyde Park, runs a full plumbing-and-heating operation, and the reviews split almost evenly between the two: furnace and boiler installs on one side, drain and water-heater repairs on the other. Across 541 Google ratings averaging 4.6★, one name comes up again and again — a technician named Ledi, credited with everything from a same-day motor swap ("like a surgeon, only 30 minutes") to methodically testing a heat pump until a condensation problem stopped recurring. The written record runs from 2021 through this year, 233 reviews across six sources, and the company's Massachusetts plumbing license is active. Its BBB page is an A+. Recent jobs read the same way the older ones do: a mini-split retrofit into an old Victorian with no open floor plan, a boiler and water heater swapped out over two and a half days with the crew cleaning up after, three gas furnaces installed in one home, a heat pump's annual tune-up where the technician drove out mid-visit to pick up the right filter. What to know before calling: the same stretch of years also holds a recurring complaint about getting someone out. A June 2026 review describes a missed appointment — dispatch said a technician was on the way, then wasn't, then had no record of the calls at all — and a 2023 review describes an almost identical no-show, after the company had scheduled and then skipped a Wednesday appointment during a summer pipe-burst emergency. Older reviews from 2021 and 2022 describe jobs left half-finished or abandoned once a scope disagreement came up. Warranty and billing friction shows up too: a September 2025 review says a water heater failed at five years against a stated ten-year warranty, with the company reportedly wanting $400 just to come look at it, and a 2024 review describes paying a diagnostic fee without the problem getting fixed. These aren't universal experiences — most of the record describes prompt, communicative visits, and the negative reviews are outnumbered many times over — but the pattern repeats often enough across the years to be worth asking about directly: get the appointment window and any warranty terms in writing before the crew arrives. McMahon looks like the right call for a heating system that needs real diagnostic work rather than a parts swap, and for plumbing repairs that need to happen the same day. Before booking anything scheduled days out, it's worth confirming the appointment will actually be kept.
We had an issue with our HVAC system, not getting good heating or cooling out of it. McMahon were able to figure it out, it turned out to be several things all limiting the HVAC - a dirty coil, a filter we didn’t know existed, a part installed that shouldn’t have been there - until it got fixed. Their people are nice and able to explain what happened for us normal folks. Highly recommend.
The organization of their telephone center leaves a lot to be desired. I had an appointment two weeks in advance. They called the day before to confirm and I missed it. I called back the day of the appointment and they said that the technician is coming but never did. When I called back they claimed that they called me ( they didn’t) and they canceled the appointment. They could rebook me the day after or three days after that. Then the called me back the next day to tell me that their next appointment is two weeks later and have no record of my previous calls. They only have records of the imaginary calls the made but none when I actually talked twice with their representative. And they blamed me for not remembering who I spoke to . So one start for the bad customer service
Ledi was great working around my house. He and his crew would come early and do their job efficiently and in a very outstanding manner. I’m happy to have had Ledi servicing my house. 100%
We recently had mini splits installed in our big-ass Victorian by McMahon. Our house was always freezing in the winter and boiling in the summer. And because of the layout of our place (lots of rooms/no real open areas) we had to have so many window units that it never really cooled anything down. But that's not the case anymore. And we couldn't be happier. From the start, everyone at McMahon was just awesome to work with. Our first contact was Steven, who explained everything to us and helped us problem solve for what would be the best solution. After we decided that, Ledi did most of the installation (always with a helper). Ledi does more work in a day than I do in 3 months. He was just great (even our pets loved him). The electricians were awesome. Everyone involved was stellar. McMahon even helped us with the MassSave info we wanted to fill out for an interest-free loan that was available. I can not say enough about them. If you are looking to get any heating or cooling units installed, use them. You will not be disappointed.
