Mercier Home Inspections

Jay Mercier is the whole company. The BBB files the Danvers business as a sole proprietorship with one employee, started in January 2012, and lists complete home inspections plus radon and water testing; its grade there is A+, on a profile that also records the business has never sought BBB accreditation. The written record is small and it pulls in two directions. Word of mouth is warm: a Massachusetts forum thread names him among inspectors who are reasonably priced and thorough, and a real-estate agent quoted on Porch says he takes time to explain a property's systems while educating buyers — neither carries a date, so treat them as general reputation rather than a report on today. What is dated is negative. In an August 2021 review, a property owner wrote that he arrived at a job, complained about the parking, and left without doing the work. In March 2022 a company describing itself as his former marketing and reputation-management vendor posted an alert alleging unpaid invoices and a court judgment — a dispute about business dealings rather than an inspection, and one that also claims the vendor's own work moved a review page from one star to five. That last point is the reason to be careful with any star average you see for this business elsewhere. If you are considering him, ask for recent client references from inspections he has done this year, and get the fee and what it covers in writing before booking.
